What do you Guys do on live recordings with major bleed on all tracks As far as time align / phase issues ? Just drums? or does it cause more problems messing with time and phase Thanks

During the first mix I use to experiment a little with time adjusting. With many mics it could get complicated.. But if I can get louder instruments or group of instruments (with almost no bleed from other instruments) to sound fuller this way I think it's a big plus. When I'm present while recording I try to find time recording all channels while walking around to the different mics and just clap a couple of times at each position. Or if the ensemble isn't too large just let every musician play solo thru the whole register of their instruments one by one while recording all channels. Gives some directions for the experiments.

Thanks unit 7 I need to add that I had no choice of Mics or placement I was just handed recording

As a guy who really only does live recording anymore, I have to say it's all in the technique used to record it. The techniques are a mashup of ensemble recording like in classical, where you need a good soundfield, and it also needs a lot of close mic support for flexibility.
Outside of overheads or room mics I would not time adjust anything. If the drum mics aren't keeping phase with each other, use sidechains to duck the offending mics (snare bottom from kick, for example).
You can't really fight the bleed, and my advice would be not to try. Let the recording be what it is and not what you want it to have been, and make a feature of it. If the bass is really tubby, make it a cool tubby sounding record. If the guitars are super jangly, let them jangle etc.
Don't work in solo outside of solving specific issues and be very careful with your reverbs, they'll clash easily in this scenario.

If they're already done, and you have tremendous amounts of bleed and phase issues, time alignment may only serve to make matters worse IMHO.

I used to mess with phase alignment, haven't touched it in years. Sometimes it's obvious and you should. Many times it fixes one thing and messes another up.

Remember, the phase response of most mics isn't linear, so any phase alignment may be at a particular frequency !

Even with an all pass, your talking about aligning two devices that are going to have a nonlinear phase response vs freq and direction. so your never going to get a true phase alignment, unless you are using the same omni mics on everything! The all pass is still only get you aligned at some coincidental freq. Its a matter of luck!

Thanks all for the input .This recording is already in the can I'm only mixing it . Im taking all my processing off and gonna mix to the vocal track it has a LOT of hi hat, snare bleed , but there is some phase issues I've not nailed down as to where yet this is my second live mix and it's been a really good learning experience

Give Auto-Align a try and see if you can get things to settle.... I'm not sure how well it'll work with all that, but it might.

This 100%, obviously keep things in phase as much as you possibly can during tracking but I have found this plugin to be really effective for a lot of drum recordings I get to mix.
