Was pleased to hear how the Beyer M 160 held up against the modern mic's, as well as the Shure dynamics. Some conventional wisdom holds.

Made me think about buying a 160 We have a pair of M160's. Although we mainly use them for overheads when we want some extra smoothness over condensers they are great on electric guitars and also jangly acoustics when you don't want to overemphasise the highs while still retaining detail.

Only had a listen to the mics I have some familiarity with (and the condensers although never used either of those particular ones) and for the first 45 secs or so.
From that quick and dirty test I liked the SM7. Not what I expected. Didn't think any were total dogs.
Will have to come back and listen to the rest and the other mics.
Cheers, Geoff

That was a great shootout. What a helpful thing those can be when they're so well done like that. There ere some good mics there. I too found the SM7 surprisingly good, and preferred it to many others. The AEA R92 and the Wunder sounded really good too.
To me, the guitar sound itself kinda sucked, so the mic could only show so much of what it can do. It made it difficult to know which one I'd choose, probably the AEA or the Wunder.
