Thought it would be fun to do a DI shootout with some of the DIs I have laying around here. While a particular DI might be especially good on certain sources, I wanted to test using full range to better demonstrate the differences between. Therefore I used the output from a Yamaha Motif going into the DI which then went into a Dizengoff D-4. No EQ or compression was used. I did try to get levels close, but this is not scientific. It does allow you to hear the differences in response between them. It would have been fun to have Dan's ZOD ID DI here for comparisons but that isn't in my bunch. Here they are for your review. Identities will be revealed in the future. Comments on your choices welcomed. It is so difficult to comment on this due to the fact that you are using a Yamaha Motif and every patch on those synths (I have a Motif 8 which I love very much) responds differently to different DIs or DI inputs.
The most consistent results I have found for mine is using two instrument inputs on a Focusrite 428 Mark 1. Of course, that is also a hidden gem of a unit that can be picked up for next to nothing these days and few of you realize just how good it is. It is better than good, it is freaking brilliant actually and holds its own against any 1073 or 312. It's almost like a blend of the two.

I like 3 and 4 best, but can't decide, which i really like more. I clicked 3. 4 sounded warmer to me, but i am not sure if i really like its color for these keyboard patches.

The DIs I tested, in no particular order, were:
1. Countryman Type 85 FET 2. Avenson Small DI 3. Demeter Tube Direct 4. Bumblebee Bb-D1 J-Fet Active DI 5. D4 DI insert
I'll let you know which is which in the near future. I'll allow a bit more time for opinions first.

The Demeter Tube Direct was the very first tube direct box I bought years ago. Still using it.
