Sorry, I missed the first notification. They are going for around 200 on ebay right now, so I'd do a bit less for ya, but I'm intrigued by Ward's claim that they work well on bass guitar.. Which is surprising since they have such small capsules.. So I'm going to give it a try on that before I decided to sell or not.

M201's are great on everything.
No experience of the Sontronics. M201 on snare user also. Currently using an Oktava MK012 as my bottom mic, just to make sure I get all the top I need!

M201 into vp28 is a very slick bass amp mic. Dude.. I tried it last night.. No kidding. It works great. It gets a nice growl without getting boomy like others.

Well I got slammed at work and dropped off the gear train for a minute. Then I got the spring reverb bug and put my $$ in to a zerotronics, which I don't have yet.
But I'm back on snare mic patrol. I guess I'll get a sontronics and an m80 and a couple of those mods that J Steiger mentioned made by the mogaine guys.
why not?

shure used to make a transformerless 57 named the starmaker. it was an sm77
on a side note. think I gotta get one of those yellow 57's from mogaine. marshall cab awaits. there is a technique of using 2 sm57 mics. one on axis and the other at 45deg and blending. works really well.

Easier to mod a SM57 than find a good 77, they are not unobtainium, or priced that way, just a cheap cheap shure that were normally used abused. Many bitched and moaned about the low output, so it was Short lived. SHURE has tried numerous times to build a cheaper 57. I'm sure every rep has heard at least a million times that a cheaper 57 would kill everybody else, but hey is a $100 that much and every time They try it isn't everything they want!

The Sontronics Aria is it? Is supposed to be one of the best mic's out there at the moment, tons of 5 star reviews..
What put me off is on some of the clips I heard there was breakup, not sure if that was just an issue with the recording or not? Anyway, if I decide what I have isn't sufficient for whatever reason.. It's the next one on my list.
If nothing else though, it is a beautiful sounding mic and it sounds like it would slip into a mix like feet into some slippers.

Am wondering how you got on with your snare mic hunt Noah, Did you end up trying the mogaines.
