I'll never forget attending the QuickTime roll-out and calling out the developers' utter technical incompetence during the Q&A session. It was typical developer arrogance where they couldn't be bothered with learning how what they were trying to do actually works. In this case they got the frame rate of both U.S. over the air television and of Apple computers wrong. For years they were actually running two back to back sample rate conversions from and then back to the very same frame rate. I pointed that fact out to a very embarrassed engineering VP around five years later.
Steinberg was another one. It took them almost a decade to figure out that timecode, audio and MIDI all need to use the same clock. This after finding Nuendo automation wouldn't work with Eucon and having the facts of life explained by the Euphonix engineers.
Yes, I have virtually no respect for most audio software developers because I've found way too many stupid mistakes lurking under the hood of "name" products.

All to true, it always seamed like the guys who were in charge of building Audio software came from either a Video or Midi Background. Few if any came from the audio world and even fewer came from a comprehensive background. On way to many occasions I found myself giving these guys The Yamaha Live sound book ( Between Yamaha and Hal Leonard I had a ton of Free copies), the scary part is how many thanked me for giving them a way of learning the basics! Oh Beard of Audio Knowledge, at least in the boom times Most of these Software Houses would try to tap into the well of information their " partners " had, now they seam to know more than their users !
