Salt Lake City, Utah (April 5, 2016)—Following the overwhelming success of the completely original, modern design VL37 ribbon microphone, Samar Audio Design is excited to announce the new active version VL37A.
Created for a wide range of applications, the VL37A brings the sonic performance of the VL37 to a new level. Specifically designed for extremely low noise (it has 4-5 dB lower noise than the already very quiet VL37), the VL37A opens up a new territory of applications, notably classical music, broadcasting, movie, and studio recordings. Because of its condenser-like output level, and because of the optimized load on the ribbon and perfect impedance integration, the VL37A puts much less stress on the preamplifier choice, making it a perfect and very affordable solution for projects and professional studios.
In keeping with the VL37, the motor structure and tuning of the VL37A are based on our critically acclaimed Samar MF65, all the microphones in the range use the same components. As with all of our microphones, the VL37A is entirely handcrafted and meticulously assembled using parts made exclusively in our US shop.
The extended frequency response of the VL37A exceeds any other figure 8 ribbon microphone on the market past or present. Coupling the motor with the use of toroidal transformers has allowed Samar Audio to achieve an unprecedented top frequency response of over 25 kHz. These transformers are designed and tuned specifically for this particular model and like the rest of the range are made in-house.
For the highest possible performance, the microphone has a mechanism of fine ribbon adjustment. This, together with a unique proprietary method of ribbon tuning, helps to achieve an unprecedented level of consistency so that microphones from different production batches can be used as matched stereo pairs. Samar Audio Design’s proprietary corrugation process helps to maintain ribbon shape without special storage precautions. The microphone body is made out of stainless steel and the separate top and bottom caps fit seamlessly for a streamlined appearance.
The VL37A tonal balance combines a vintage vibe with a modern sound, creating a unique but affordable recording tool. Its bi-directional, figure 8, symmetrical polar pattern is perfect when used on vocals, choir, piano, violin, orchestra, brass instruments, acoustic and electric guitar, speaker cabinets, drum overheads, room microphones, among other recording, broadcast, and classical music applications.
Handcrafted in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA VL37A comes with 5-year parts warranty, and a 2 year limited ribbon replacement guarantee.
The VL37A is being offered for sale directly for $1099.00 USD with a Risk-Free 15-Day trial.
