If you're just looking for a Fet...I think I'd go cheap and have Shannon pop a capsule in. Or try the Aston, 3U or Shure KSM 44. I see people mention the Shure KSM 44 a lot, I've never tried one. A least a Shure is easy to get hold of in the UK, the problem with boutique US mic's is the posting, customs and resulting import charges (an extra 22%) I bought my Wunder CM7 about 7 years ago and they are now 45% more expensive in the UK! I really regret selling my BLUE Kiwi, I just needed the money for the CM7 - same old - sell A to buy B. I'm going to check out the Shure - thanks for the suggestion.

I' use most of the Peluso tube microphones on a regular basis...2247, P49, P67, P12..all are perfectly good and fine. I've never been in love enough with any of them to spend my own money on one. I think the Blue Kiwi is a good suggestion if you are looking for something voiced similar to a U87, and I see them for sale for $800-$1000 used pretty regularly I really regret selling my BLUE Kiwi, I just needed the money for the CM7 - same old - sell A to buy B. I am fortunate enough to own a vintage Neumann U87 from 1971, a new Neumann U87ai from 1987 and a new Kiwi from 2011. IMHE.... the Kiwi is half-way between an old and a new U87. With a little bit of TLM103 sibilance thrown in. It is very very very much the same sort of mid-forward well-rounded versatile tone and one of the best values out there.

Yes I regret selling my KIWI (you're making it worse!) it was an original Latvian made one from 2008.
Thinking back now I remember I actually sold it to help fund buying a BLUE Bottle with a B6, B7, B0 vocal capsules.
I'll tell you I thought I was set when I got that system - but it was a HUGE disappointment to me, non of the caps sounded like their supposed counter parts (C12, U47, 251) and I thought it had this slightly hard gritty sound - each cap was so extreme the B6 was mega bright, the B7 mega woolly the B0 mega hyped at the top and bottom. The build quality was 1st class and I do realise other people love the Bottle .... I but actually prefer the KIWI.
I just thought "I love the KIWI" and the Bottle will therefore be the KIWI +10 .... for me personally I was way wrong and I lost £1750 proving myself wrong!
I sold it and that's when I bought the Wunder CM7 and have never looked back for lead vocals.
Maybe I should look for another KIWI second hand :-)
Tricky thing mics.

I had the KSM44, Kiwi, A bunch of Advanced Audio mics. If I wasn't gonna DIY a mic, I would totally look at the Peluso. I had heard sll 's Peluso p84 clone next to my KM84's and it sounds killer. His 47 also sounds really good. They are easy to recommed. I would love to hear more of his mics.

I have owned a Peluso 2247LE and a pair of 2251's. They were really good mics. I was very happy until I stepped up to a Bock 151. It was a whole different league and ear opener for me. I guess I have to sell my 824's now...lol. I would still like to try another Peluso mic though, that 67 looks interesting.

I had a TR14 (tube ribbon) for a couple years. Great sounding mic. Definitely on the dark side especially compared to my 121 but it was killer on overdriven guitar amps. Real meaty but natural. Wish I could afford to keep both.
