wondering if this is based off the UBK fatso. Doesn't look like it. Looks like they just added another comp setting. Although I wonder if the new compressor algo was one of Greg's...

Interesting. I've been thinking I'd get a fatso or 2x distressors as the next studio purchase..

Probably cheaper than 2 distressors... I checked it out but all I found was buzzwords about how it sounds. I'd like to know exactly what they do and why they want to do it when the original was pretty well regarded as well.. I understand that the 2x distressors would be more expensive, but I'm looking for sound, not gear on a budget.

Well imo it's definitely not budget !! So, the mod totally changes the compressors to Greg's vision of some classics ( 1176 and LA2A ) and other totally different curves and responses. The compressors are not the same as the original except for one which is the ssl buss comp emu if I'm not mistaken. Supposedly Greg didn't want to change that one comp. The saturation and tranny remain the same. I love mine. As well you can sidechain the input to not drive the input to the saturation circuit hard giving you cleaner compression options. Plus it's brown!!
