Dear RGOs.
I did work with one of the Originals years ago with this the time gap is to big to make any serious statemeant. I already own one WA76 and I am about to buy a second one. But before I do it.
Who ownes both UA and WA Revison D? Is there a big diffrence? Should I save for the original? If yes why?
Cheers Holmes

Nope, my general impression is the Hairballs are closer to the vintage units than UA and so is the Warm. Price difference is way too wide between the two as well and you have the option of having a matched pair. No brainer, get the warm.

Totally agree with @jordanvoth. I've used 2 UA 1176 LN's. One was boring and lifeless - the actual compression behavior was quirky meaning it just didn't clamp down like you'd expect from an 1176. Hard for me to explain but I didn't like it at all. The other was good but still a bit clean for my taste using an 1176. The WA76 is fantastic. It's smoother than both UA's I've used and can be more colorful when pushed if that's what you're going for. Can't say enough good things about the WA76.

I have 3U left so I'm going 500 Hairballs

Consider the Serpent Audio Splice...best 1176 clone Ive had (had it the same time as the WA76.) Really a great bang for the buck!

There are better Clones than the Warm, but once you factor in price the WA76 is a no brainer!

I own both. Both are useful. The WA76 is much better value.

Echoing everyone else. Get another Warm. I owned hairball, ua, mohog, and warm. I kept the UA for as long as I did for sentimental reasons. I now have 2 x hairball, a g1176, and the Warm and am looking at possibly building another but I'll never get another UA.

DBX 160X is my favorite for tracking bass and love it at mix time for snare and kick. Lots of great VCA's out there.

Well I have a different take on it... I have VERY good Hairballs. I did some good mods and I REALLY like my blue strip for female Vox... Black for RnR vox and well everything. If I need more I will get the warm because it seems good and I dont really have time to build anymore
