about as rare as a Mexican only child. Wow, customer count -1 Yeah, make that -2. I was about to send him a piece to mod in the next couple of weeks, too. Glad I saw this before I did.

I owned a B25 for about 10 years before I gave it to my nephew as a gift. I never really loved that guitar. The neck was way too chunky and it had that funky adjustable bridge which, imo, was a tone suck. I've always felt the other Gibsons you named sounded kind of chunky. I know many are big fans, I never was. I think the 00-18 has the nicest tone of all the ones you listed. I've played a few over the years and they've never disappointed my ears. What's your price range and what are your goals tonally? Perhaps I can offer some alternatives. I loved my Epiphone Cortez which was pretty much a B-25 but it had a super thin neck, like an electric. One of those with a fixed bridge added would be great for my personal taste for just sitting on the couch and a nice option for recording. I love playing Tim O'Briens old 00-18 when he brings it to the studio...unfortunately his Martin signature model has a V neck which I hate. I think I may have a sense of the tone you're looking for. A guitar that might work for you is the Martin Custom 0-15 or 00-15 or perhaps one of the others in their all-mahogany 15 series. The price for those is usually somewhere around $1500-$1700 new. The mahogany top cuts down on the brightness and based on what you've told me so far it looks like that's the kind of tone you prefer.

Well I took the small console Board plunge !
Our old thread friend Tony alerted m to a nice Soundcraft delta dlx, 16/4/2 with the master channels and 2 mono already modded and an upgraded PSU all by Jim Williams ( Audo Upgrades). It is in good working order and was priced well (below the price of the mods). So thx to Tony !
Our thread friend Wiz (Peter), was also helpful answering my many questions , as he has a modded delta too and also uses OB and records in Logic, as do I, so I really valued his opinions.
Thank goodness for the internet, as I am in Canada and the board was out in LA, but I did an internet search for a courier company as the owner did not want to ship to Canada. The courier guy, Jack, was super professional and very helpful and everything got picked up and shipped just fine.
Very interesting to talk to Tony, Wiz and Jim, about what can be done with the mods. I like Jim's approach to using very good parts and going for fast and accurate transient response , higher bandwidth and frequency response and lower noise, basically clean and to get your dirt in your OB. I think of him as Mr. Clean.
All channels have line inserts, so you can easily patch out from Logic using its utility I/O plug in to the delta channel eq's ( plan a) for mixing.
As Jim has already modded the master section, I am curious about the summing effect of that but I know that Wiz mixes and re-amps within Logic and his results are super impressive too, so it should be a fun adventure as I am well into an anti plug phase and liking real OB.
Using a console will be new to me, so I might start a thread about that, just sharing experience, as I know for many of you, it is old hat so it would be good to gain your insights.

Have been back and forth about getting a U47fet style mic, Wunder, Horsch, Bock or even DIY, but just the other day decided to go for the original while they're still making the RI. Cost a little extra, but I reckon if I'll have to get rid of it in the future it'll keep it's value. And soundwise...even though some people seem to like some of the clones better, and others, like our revered Professor Dumbledore and the allmighty Doctor, are not that fond of the Neumann, I know I've gotten a kick every time I've heard it on kick :-) Very nice on double bass too. dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1141125/RGO%20stuff/U47fet1.jpgdl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1141125/RGO%20stuff/U47fet2.jpg

The tube tech smc2a came. I've had a chance to use it on drums. I used it on fok and "wurst" mics. Great way to get loads of punch. controlling the high end. Add some mid range depth, tighten up the lows. I love it. This isn't goin anywhere.

They are fantastic on bass drum, and despite what others seem to say, they are a great vocal mic as well. I know for a fact they have been used to cut vocals on many a big rock record. Have fun with it!

Actually, the night before ordering the FET I watched an Oasis documentary aired on swedish TV with a clip with Liam in the studio singing Wonderwall into...guess what :-) I was like...ok ok I get it :-)

Have fun with it! Same!! CAn't beat a U47fet on outside or inside kick, bass guitar amp too!! What they 'hear' in any Ampeg cabinet is fantastic! And yes, quite a great rock vocal mic. I used one of mine on an album that's in rotation on Lil Steven's Garage channel and every time it comes on, I am so happy about the choice.

Funny, my friend loaned me two original U47 FET's and I couldn't stand them on vocals! I had a Blackspade UM-17B at the time that sounded better. Also, I don't quite see how come a U87 sounds better for most lead vocals than the U47 FET. I mean neither one has tubes, do they have different capsules?
I can see spending that much money if you find it gives you the best sound for bass, but for a kick drum? That doesn't make sense to me unless you've got all your other mic needs very well handled.

Yes, yes they do. K47 capsule in the U47. Very broadly a solid state version of the U47 tube. K87 (K67) capsule with de-emphasis in the amplifier in the U87. Very vaguely a solid state update to the U67 type of mic. My friend that works at Omega Studios in DC really likes the 47 FET, on all sorts of sources, not just low end stuff.

Maybe it just didn't flatter your voice in the way you like to hear it. Totally normal - that's why it's great to have options! I wouldn't throw up a FET47 on everybody's vocal, but it's great for really loud singers and is especially flattering if their voice has some break up to it (Chris Cornel). I spend a LOT of time getting drum sounds. It makes everythig so much easier down the line for me. The FET47 is a staple for me. I absolutely can not stand "kick drum mics" like the D112, Beta52, etc - the Original D12 is fantastic however.

I figured it was great on kick drums, and completely get how important a good drum sound is to everything else falling into place in a production. I just thought that it would be unwise for home recordist or small studios to spend so much of a limited budget on just a kick drum mic. You can get quite a good sound board or 2-3 fantastic mics for the money spent on one 47FET.
If I did have all my other pieces that I'd give higher priority to nuance, and found nothing worked better than the 47FET for a kick, I'd sure be happy to use one. If you use it to record the kick on band tracks, then you'd need another if you liked it for bass as well as the kick.

Gene Eichelberger told me about doing that at Quadraphonic during the '70s so I tried it and was blown away. This is why I rent studio time!

Just ordered a BAE Dual 1073 Dual from the UK taking advantage of the low Sterling to Euro rate. Also its B stock so discounted as well :-)
This was on my "grab-it-if-you-ever-see-a-good-deal" list so I didn't even hesitate.
