I've wanted a pair for decades too... (I remember Bob O. digs EV 635a's on Percussion. ) Chris

I bought a Charter Oak SCL-1 at a good price on Reverb, and the seller did a terrible job packing it, and while it works it doesn't work 100%. He agreed to a refund and than said "if you give me $200 you can keep it" so I'm going to hang on to it and see if JMP Electronics still services them or I can find someone who does.
Also, I made a very impulsive purchase, but someone in town was selling an API The Box with a custom Sterling Modular desk and Skinny Fish Audio patch bay for an insane price and I took them up on it. I think it's going to be a nice solution for me mixing at home. I love the idea of 0dB fader bypass button for summing, and each channel having an insert really makes it an ideal. I don't really need mic preamps but just having 4 mic lines and DI's at home will be handy if "inspiration" strikes. I really wasn't looking but I'm hoping it'll be a nice improvement.

The casual console impulse buy haha ! Congrats ! I can’t pass up a good deal. It’s a pretty silly purchase, really. I have a Trident Series 70 but it’s 7’ long and too big for the house…I had it loaned to a friend but just got it back and it doesn’t fit anywhere except the laundry room! I also have an Auditronics Grandson I’ve been slowly restoring for the past couple years but ergonomically it’s a very uncomfortable console and is even more limited than the Box. I guess I just like consoles 😆

I haven't studied home ergonomics in decades. But I do remember... I just didn't fit in, with rest of the class. Well except for my main squeeze. Chris

A triangle. Treeworks HS06. Took more research and listening to clips than choosing my tube preamps

I just picked up another CAPI BT-50 EQ off Sweetwater's Gear Exchange. I wasn't really looking for one at this point, but to find a used one for less than what the kit would cost with the op amps is a steal. I was going to get another one eventually but wasn't in the market for one until I stumbled across this one. I can't NOT take advantage of those situations. Ok, I'm done buying recording gear this year.....again. I still want a hardware buss compressor but I have plugins that will work for now. I think the next thing I'm going to buy is another guitar. I want a Jazzmaster to add to the arsenal. Either that or something with P-90's on it like a SG or Les Paul Jr. or both. Gotta save my lunch money.

Hold off another guitar Get that hardware bus compressor, trust me (actually never trust anyone on the internet) it’s the one item of hardware that will beat you plugin versions by a considerable margin. A decent hardware stereo bus compressor will make an otherwise ITB mix sound “analogue”. Then you’re done for this year

My wife's going to tell me that we don't even have a bus. Why do you need a compressor for one? Now I have to buy 2 more guitars AND a buss compressor. There are 2 empty spaces in my 500 rack. Can't have that. It's just not natural. I already have 16 guitars and I don't know where I'd put 2 more. My closets are full and they're under every bed in the house. I guess I can hang them from the ceiling. Too much acoustic treatment in the studio to hang them on the wall. I wonder if she'd go for building on a room just for guitars?

Bought an OTO Bebe Cherie. Love it. Sure, it's missing some key features, but it sounds great, the EQs on the channels are fun, the clipping is great, the overall compressor is musical (usually not too into fast attacks but it doesn't sound too squished to me on this box) and the overall EQ can get subtle to extreme. A very playable mixer, so I think I might perform / print sections, old school style, once the overall timbres / balances are approved by clients and splice it all together. I also have to mention Mountainking Pedals. Really nice sounding fuzzes / distortions that preserve low end - basically the ultimate heavy bass pedal company. But the pedals are useful for more than bass - synths will love them. The guy who makes the pedals is clearly all in and passionate about what he does. The Mountainking Magnetar is a trip, wow ! Which model are you using ? And the OTO bébé Chérie yes I have my eyes on this one... Fairly priced for what it does.

A decent hardware stereo bus compressor will make an otherwise ITB mix sound “analogue”. Then you’re done for this year I'm just starting to find this out... not coincidentally, from the latest gear I've acquired :-) Just picked up a used Drawmer 1973 3-band FET compressor. What a delightful treat! At first I thought it would be too complex for me, and then I got it and realized it's amazingly intuitive, then I got deeper into it and re-realized it's too complex for my skill level, then I got even more into it and have re-re-realized it actually is quite intuitive and a great sound can be had with some minor adjustments. I'm sure I'm going to continue to roller coaster with this one for a while, but I'm super glad I got it in my arsenal now. What a ride! Btw, now I'm jonesing for the tube version S73. Way outside my space but man that would be great to have the sound of tubes with the flexibility of the Drawmer 3 band. Stuff of dreams.

Strymon Iridium for a travel pedal board. with different IRs sounds great; have a DMC Micro Pro on order and with the new Nixie editor, will be great to have multiple amp sounds on tap. If you have one and don't like the punch setting, try swapping in a 1x12 Deluxe Reverb IR - for me it made the difference. Before that, bought a Tru-Fi Colordriver - this guy nails the old fuzz/overdrives, but added a volume knob which the old Colorboosts didn't have. For my Dr. Z amp it's all the pedal I need - and it's metal flake green! Attachments:

Thanks! -09 Hoping to use it this weekend on some drum sessions and a banjo session. I've only got vocal session for the next couple days. I will report back. It certainly is a nice looking mic. I hope is sounds good as well. My plan is Blumlein for drum room about 10' out.

Ordered a pair of Ingram Engineering 500 eq/filters and a pair of Kush Tweezers. I’m switching to a three-mic overhead setup, so I want more drum-friendly options.
I also sprang for the Zen Pro Phoenix DRS-Q4 preamp/eq deal.
I’ll be selling my single DRS-1R, LA500, PEQ500, and Cranborne Camden to make room in the rack. Hit me up if interested!

I recently gutted my studio, gave it a clean, started to properly wire it and the issue is my studio is only semi complete. Half of it's unusable and that's a road block cause I don't have a second Carbon, I'm missing bits all over the place to make it a true hybrid setup. So, I thought we're at a juncture here you either crap or get off the pot.. So.. > Avid Carbon Pre > API 2500D > Shadow Hills Mono Gamma > American Fender Strat > Marshall DLSR (cause I like it and wanted a pocket amp)
And then I ran out of budget soo.. > 2X KT-76's for kick / bass duty. Might replace them with Serpent's down the line, it's no loss if they don't live up to expectations as they are the only cheap pieces of HW I own. Now, I have 16 channels of outboard into the Carbon's and 6 lots of HW going into the SSL. I don't need to repatch, switch, try to dual stack on comps or anything.. I literally have no space for anything else and there is nothing more to buy. Studio 100% complete, finally..

Funny. My Studio isn't 100%. But at least I'm 100% Certified. Finally. Partly as the Vanguard V44S MKII is around $1K less new, than the R88 MKII... More $$ practical for someone like me. * I hope next NAMM (hint hint )... They have it set up to sing/test through directly. Chris *John Cuniberti had a level of interest in getting me on the R88 (Particularly Rockabilly vocals! ) when he was doing the One Mic Series. Pre-Pandemic. Oh well.

Nice, I've got a couple days off this week to dedicate to rewiring the patchbay for my dual Carbon rig, desk and additional outboard. Ordered one of those Phoenix DRS-Q4 Mk2 closeouts as well, making a space in the pre-eq-converter rack...

Spent most of the day teching the API Box and Barefoot MM27 speakers. API and Barefoot both have incredible customer service. Speaking with API I narrowed down all the console’s issues to (1) 2520, a few switches, and new meters. Total parts cost: $150
The Barefoot’s had one blown tweeter and likely a voltage regulator that got fried in one of the sub board in the amp. We tried a lot over the phone, swapping boards between speakers, but unfortunately I’ve got to send one of the backplates to Barefoot for repair. But at least we narrowed it down which should make the turnaround time faster.
My experience with both definitely encourage future business especially since I’m not the original owner of either.

Looks like your lil buddy raccoon 🦝 is plumb tuckered out and has had enough for the day. Knowing how well the ones around here can manage to get into any trash bin, regardless of whether the bins are locked down like Fort Knox, I'm guessing you relied on him to get into those tight spaces.

Was missing my IC Brute recently while doing vocals and had long been curious about Buzz gear so got an Essence. Damn, I should've bought one (or a pair) a long time ago. Does everything I liked about the Brute and so much more, what great action and tone! Also snagged a 441 from GC used for half price, I've always liked that mic but never owned one of my own.

To add to my recent purchase of a triangle and congas, I just bought
Bongos (and stand) Claves Udu Vibraslap Doumbek
No more sampled percussion for me, I can now physically play everything.
It makes a huge difference to the feel.
