Picked up a pair of Rupert Neve 542…been interested in these for awhile. Also a very cheap AKG C480B with CK61 capsule. It’s pretty much going to live on hi-hat…having a pad and high pass filter instead of one or the other with the AKG C460B’s I have is a bonus. And a cheap AT4033 that I want to try as a ceiling/back wall mic in the live or drum room. Might want to go omni, and if that’s the case I’ll probably sell it or give it to a friend because I don’t need 3! And a lowball offer got accepted on a Charter Oak SCL-1...which hopefully works. Not sure if Michael Deming is still around. What a great engineer though, made some of my favorite records, shame Charter Oak had an iffy history.

AEA RPQ 500 arriving today. Hoping it brings out the best in my RCA 44A. I got the AEA RPQ 500 not to long ago to pair with an AEA R84A. I got it also to have a general purpose clean mic pre on hand. Although I didn't need all that gain because I have the active R84A I was really keen on AEAs take on the contour and high pass filter options. Turns out it's a real winner for the R84A. The HPF is suitably gentle and that HF contour knob works wonderfully to bring up the high end. Hope it works well for you, would be great to hear your feedback good or bad or meh once you've had time to explore it a bit.

Picked up a Shadow Hills Equinox w/psu. A local one popped up on the Verb from what turned out to be a super cool guy who lives north of me in Dallas. Had to make a bunch of cables (ordered material from Redco) as the approach is very different from the Burl B26 I've used for years, but I have to admit the soundstage I liked more, especially the lowend. My B26 is an original before the opamps upgrades, but still the SH is pretty stunning sonically.
Edit: also a pair of Auratone 5C's, the amp version.
2nd Edit: So it makes sense on "had to make a bunch of cables", I had to make cables to get the monitoring going, the summing going. Now have a CAPI SumBus, Tree Audio Stem, Chandler Limited Mini Mixer and the Equinox all tied to patchbays for summing choices. The Truth will prevail as we experiment with them, lol.

Finally got a Buzz Audio Tonic EQ to try with their Elixir pre --> liking the Tonic so far, a ton of features in a small form factor and sounds GREAT to my ears. I heard a shootout years ago where that EQ really perked my ears up. Always wanted to try one.

Recently got the Coil Audio phantom power unit and really love it. Time to order another. I swear my mics sound better through it and it helps keep the phantom from the bays.

Small purchase but WOW!
I know the Prophet 5 really well.
I demoed the Softube Model 80 as it was on sale for £60.
Sheesh, they're clever guys at ST.
This VI sounds like a P5 to my ears it's really crazy how close they have got it!
I have the U-He Repro 1&5 which have good features but sound wise the Model 80 is a Prophet 5 ITB!
Impressive stuff.

Totally agree...the whole "Model" series from Softube is fantastic. And the Model 80 specifically is great fun.

A pretty (very) used AE5400 is on it's way. Looking to step up from the trusty SM58, and for something that will cut through better than my KSM8 (though I really like that one on guitar cab for a smooth and dark result). Couldn't resist the price, but now I'm wondering how I might clean it up. 😅 Anyone have a protocol for prepping a used mic for pert-near-to-your-mouth duty?

I picked up a pair of Alder Audio H44S ribbons and a Vanguard V44S Gen2. Keeping on the 44 theme maybe an AEA R44... $$$$ :-)

Yeah me too :-) That goodie is my sleeper purchase for the past few months. So glad I took the plunge. I use it now instead even when another device has its own phantom power.

I just used Model 84 on a track yesterday and it really nails that organic instability.

I mentioned this at the tail end of my own thread but just to document in here: bought what is supposed to be a well cared for, re-foamed RE 11. I’ve wanted something like an RE 15/16 for a couple years because I really like the sound of Fly Like an Eagle/Book of Dreams era Steve Miller Band, and this one is also intended to solve some more general vocal mic issues for what/where i’m recording these days.

Steve Miller 1976? Guessing U87 or U67.
FWIW when I hear RE15/16... Am thinking more along the lines of Elvis Presley "Comeback Era' Sound, with Chips Moman etc. (Also Chess Records circa Late 60's/Early 70's. As RE15 and EV 666 were their main studio mics, during this period) Chris

Gotham GAC 3, 200m + the connectors. I'm setting up a not-that-mini setup at my grandma's place. She needs assistance. I'll arrange my little blips and bloops from her place for the next few months.

Was mixing the opening of a run of Best Little Whorehouse last night, went with RE15s on the brass for that '70s flavor, looks the part, sounds the part.

Oh yes, I’ve wanted a pair for years …. decades even. I bought a pair of Meinl congas! 11” &12” on stands I’m trying to get rid of as many sampled instruments as I have space for. Mic recommendations?
