I see one or two of these in my future. I’m shocked 😳 but that price is an absolute steal! IKR? Me and mics, who woulda thunk it?

Guy salvaging demo on one of the floors of my building found an install rack 4 Shure UlX P4 w AC adapters and active combiner $150 sight unseen. Just need to buy a transmitter or 2,4 or 8 and test ( I’m going to assume 1 and they are all on the same freq. group for now) the BETA 87 & SM58 heads can live on Shure transmitters and the Ambient adapters can live on something new!

My transmitters were implanted already at birth. (or was it all those Missing Time experiences?) Hmm... Chris

Picked up a cloud lifter tonight. Finally. I'm holding my breath until you realize YOU don't need it .........just.......let.......me......know........................ I picked it up to boost the level of my RCA 44BX (specifically, only for that microphone) and of course I CAN'T let phantom power pass through, so if it passes ANY phantom power, I'll be ditching it. Addendum: I'll be testing it with a multimeter as well as plugging in different condensers to see if passes any starved current when requested by a microphone, as sometimes a 44 seems wont to do. Cheeky buggers, they don't always behave.

Personally I wouldn't ditch the 44. If the Cloudlifter doesn't work for it. Chris

Anothe guy who loved RCA’s used AT and Stewart Phantom supplies like PSU’s for tube mics. He had disabled the 48volt rails on the console PSU and disabled the phantom switches on all his outboard pre amps. Over kill? Probably but he never lost a ribbon and he had a lot of them.

I see; you really have two applications for the CloudLifter: - boosting level coming out of the old mic - ensuring that, as long as that mic is plugged into the Cloudlifter, the ribbon will never accidentally get fried from your board/preamp Ultimately, that's pretty cheap insurance for a very expensive mic! Great idea! That's

Hmm... Now I wonder if both the original Soyuz Launcher (I have one) and the Deluxe version... Offer good protection against unwanted Phantom "leakage", on sensitive Ribbons? (Might play in the Samar and/or NoHype Ribbon "sandbox" -later next year) Thanks, Chris

Years ago a guy I was working with built some Phantom blockers to save the Fostex printed Ribbons from getting killed by un attended phantom. SNIP I have one Foster printed ribbon, the M88. OMG, that thing is just so beautiful sounding on two tenor voices at a time . . . it balances, like a built in compressor, and the sound is just velvet yet alive!

Run it through a Hardware or SW Fairchild Plug. Voila! Instant Fosterchild! Mark's AL-95 sounded pretty darn "Natural" to me. I guess the AEA N22, is its friendly rival. (Wes' under $1K/AEA pick on me) IIRC the N22 has an active circuit. Both fine Ribbons too. Chris

Man, I keep forgetting we are supposed to keep our mouth shut about sleeper mics😎 The M/S stereo Fostex is just so fing easy to get a decent sounding ensemble sound in a halfway decent room. The problem is they can be a bit Fragile. The problem Fostex has had with these is the exact same one they have had with their high end studio Monitors and raw drivers. They’re reps, dealers and most customers think Fostex and Cheap multitracks, pro-Sumer gear. They should have taken a lesson from Pioneer and Marketed the good stuff under another brand like Pioneer did with TAD. The original TAD stuff was “ Pioneer Exclusive “ lable in Japan and wasn’t that well received, but when they sold the Exact same thing as TAD an audio legend was born.

I have 2 AKG 790's. Close friend has an EV 767a, that's a backup for mine. Thankfully EV 635a/AKG P120 still in production. Along with Beyer M201/M88. All some fave cheapies. Chris

Chris Well the old gold D190 that you often see listed as a 790, while not the holy grail was blessed to be the pope’s mic. Why it was often fun when a priest would come in looking at EW500 wireless and a Neumann head complain about the price and you knew the pope was using a D790 that you could find used for $75.00. It isn’t heavenly far more fragile than D1000 & 1200’s but at my worst I had 5 of each.

A pair of GAP Comp 3A's. Don't have a true opto here. We'll see how they perform. Hard to argue with the price.

Might be one of the most beautiful dynamics ever. And so cheap!
