I spent way too much, but I finally found someone to make me segmented ovangkol wood hoops, shaped like Guru Drums used to do, for my Guru Drums -inspired snare drum. Put in my order to HHG Drums! In addition, during this latest-round of looking for someone to do this for me, I ran into Red Rock Drums and their unique special eucalyptus hoops sold me and I had to try them too! Both made-to-order custom pieces, so it’ll be some many weeks before I see them, but I’m truly excited! Well I couldn’t be any more ecstatic with either of them! Die cast qualities with the added great crosstick sound and volume; along with great looks! drive.google.com/file/d/1_4B4NiiAq1_7KCcsU-jyukXxma7uNfG6/view?usp=drivesdkPicked up a new 13X8 copper penny glitter fiberglass snare from Bill Hibbs’ remaining stock at Monolith Drums too to put the Red Rock hoops on! It’s a cannon and much less resonant version of than my ultra-thin segmented wood 13X7.5. drive.google.com/file/d/1qjk8fArEZk6Nf1SIpw9J9G3L3ibSU3OS/view?usp=drivesdk

Stage One pedal steel. I have wanted to learn for so long and have been on the waiting list for Doug to build me one for a year+. I'm gonna be so terrible for quite a while. But that sound...just really does a thing for me.

I'm a big fan of the Phoenix Audio sound. I just bought a Theata to go with my N8 so I have 16 channels of amazing DI 8 of which sum to stereo.

But that sound...just really does a thing for me. You are braver than I! I would love to have the dedication, patience, time to learn pedal steel! I dearly love the sound also when played well . . . especially when the player equally draws from applications in country, western and rock. The mix is always so satisfying.

Yep I’ve been looking to pick up a used Countryman just this week and saw that lol I don’t understand While they list most of their overstock on eBay give the guys at Clair Global a shout, years ago we did a group buy of Used Countryman 85’s from them. Considering the crazy used mark I have add Give your rep at Full Compass a call, they might be a better option. If you don’t have a rep PM me. I no longer have any affiliation. And haven’t for 25 years.

Been choosing the M88 more and more lately so ordered the massive WS-59 windscreen for it. In a vocal session today performed perfectly. I always forget how versatile this mic is, even more so now with the protection.

If you've had a chance to use it on kick with the windscreen on, does the sound change drastically? I'd love to be able to preserve capsule, even in a small way. Thanks.
It didn't change it in a noticable way but I also didn't A/B as the song was needed ASAP. Looking at the preamp I did have a 15k shelf pushing 1dB so there's that to consider. It's unlikely I'll get it on a kick soon but I was impressed with how protective the foam seems to be, without foam I've always had to angle it carefully for vocals to avoid pops, it always seemed especially sensitive to them for a dynamic. It was never a problem today.

United Studio Tech Twin87, Api512V, Coles 4038 and Rupert Neve 542. Twin87 might be the best condenser I’ve heard for vocals under $1,000 easy. For that midrange forward U87 sound. API 512v speaks for itself. Gonna grab another. I have Phoenix audio preamps, BAE, Capi, Spehre, AEA, Hairball, Retro and the API filled a void for me. Finally got a Coles 4038. Speaks for itself. And the RND 542 is ok but honestly not falling in love with it. Anyone else feel the same? I usually don’t return things but if I don’t find a place I really feel I’ll use it a lot I’m going to send it back. Maybe the thing is to have a pair or bust?

He builds a nice instrument at a price that is feasible for people that can’t bite the bullet with one of the bigger brands (and bigger prices). I think my only complaint, and it’s a small one - the pickup output is SUPER hot on mine so it can really blow up an amp if you’re trying to get super clean sound out of it. Playability wise it’s fantastic. I have to rack my brain every time I sit down to use it on a session or song. Takes me forever to be happy with my intonation. I just haven’t had the time in the past five years to sit down and work on my playing for an hour every day. Good luck with it! Not many instruments are as satisfying to hear yourself on playback when you get the good take!

msamper how do you find the side chain? I really love the detail and accuracy that Eric and team have put into this.
The sidechain attack and release options (AND the feed forward mode) were the main reasons I decided to get the Unfairchild. I had a DIY Drip 670 for a long time but sold it together with an Retro Sta Level after I got the UTA.

I was given a broken M88 (it had the dreaded low end problem) but less than $200 later, it got serviced and is good as new, for less than half the cost new.

Just arrived today - Revive modded DBX 160a with new VCA and Jensen transformer etc. The Reverb price was too hard to pass up. Not an Unfairchild I know, but I've been researching and listening a lot to DBX comps lately and this will be a good way to dig in to the hardware without going into four figures on the new AudioScape 260VU. The Analog Obsession DBComp plugin really helped me understand the sonics too. And a video comparing the Revive modded 160a to the stock version on the Mixing Music Analog YouTube channel was helpful too - a real upgrade.

Just had an offer excepted on another Graphic for the live rig. While not my favorite sonically on wedges the TDM designs 30 ge2 is one of my favorites, besides being a decent Graphic it has 3 Notch filters per ch on sliders. I really don’t want these to go up but, imagine how quickly you can make a howl disappear before it starts just sliding the notch filter. Then you can cut the appropriate fader reset the notch filter for the next one. My BSS will live on mains, a XTA Audient, KT or BSS definitely better fidelity but for a world of one nighters TDM on wedges every night.

Finally completed my Abbey Road rack with the addition of this REDD.51 “POP” EQ clone (blue knobs). Obviously not a very flexible EQ but it sounds fantastic, and anything that gets me closer to the sound of recording on a proper REDD desk is okay by me! Attachment Deleted

Just unboxed a new Compex F760-RS-TX. It's already in the rack, but an ill-timed re-wiring project will prevent me from hearing it for couple of days.

Traded an amp for a Gibson Les Paul Classic with Throbak pickups and wiring harness. Plays great, not too heavy (but still a Les Paul)...nice to have a Les Paul in the house again and it takes up a lot space in the studio!
