If we need more evidence that they're always listening, this pulled up on my YouTube suggestions tonight. Didn't search the drum machine up at all but I'm a long time Alex Ball subscriber and big fan of his channel and music so obviously my browsing history is being captured in detail and cross-referenced. prene1 thought you might find this video interesting. Alex is a savant in these areas.

I picked up a vintage U87. Ok condition, but dead silent and sounds good! I mostly bought it as a reference mic for my YouTube channel since I'm not a huge fan of the u87 in general. Ofc it's a great mic but for vocals tube-mics are always more exciting! ibb.co/Srwjh6T

Just bought these two units for a great price.
- Mc Audio Lab Luna ( go at 21 min for sound test)
- Mc Audio Lab SHD2CH (this one I have not found audio demos online, but if it's everything it says it is, then I'll like it).
Mc Audio Lab is a pretty obscure brand. Luna seems to be a badass MS processor.

That’s great! The studio I work out of has an SP1200, Linn Drums, a DMX, and more, in Studio B (aka upstairs). It seems damn-near impossible these days to get anyone to show-up and play with the things though! Sad. Wow. That’s cool. Please post a beat or two when you’re able, I’d love to hear what this box inspires you to do!

Sweet congratulations! Now I’ll show my age by pointing out there was a time you couldn’t give an EMU drum machine away, and yeah I’m pissed I didn’t grab one😎 Lol. It’s dinosaur tech but I want to be part of the sampling / hardware renaissance when it returns. One cool trick to get a huge fat Kick was to put the kick output through a sub harmonic synthizer like a DBX 120, Furman or the one in the later Aphex exciters and double it an octave lower, if you monitors go low enough it will put a huge smile on your face shake the building and you will recognize that it was all over stuff in the late 80’s.

I love how happy you look in that picture. That's what getting new gear should always feel like!!! Have fun with her. Stam 251. First impression: holy smokes: Whatever Floats (demo).wavThis is recorded through a newly-acquired Great River MP-4. Processed with a couple of UAD compressors in parallel and SSL G-bus and ATR-102 on the two bus. This mic—wow! The GAS is strong. Sounds good. It's cool you found an MP-4. I've had an MP-2 for 22ish years. They're really great. I need to send mine up to Dan Kennedy for a checkup.

That's a good looking 1200. Allow me to reinforce this route of dinosaur tech acquisition with my own most recent one. I've been after this for ~25 years, but it stayed just out of reach until recently. Comes equipped with some old-school Studio Electronics tweaks.

It may be in my ex-wife's basement.

Retro Sta-level. I’ve lost count I picked one up recently...for the first time though...and I dig it! 12AY7 died in the first day of use but ain't that part the joys of tube equipment? It's a really nice compliment to the Chandler REDD microphone...which I'm still hot and cold on. Paired with the Sta it takes some of the edge off and adds a little "chest"...I've got it strapped to the vocal on a record I'm mixing at the moment And it doesn't sound like my other tube compressors (LA-2A, CL-1B, Vac Rac, ADL-1500, TLA-100A, BG-1). I picked up TDR Kotelnikov GE from Plugin Boutique...it's on sale for $11...had a couple "virtual" bucks from them so it was $9.

Retro Sta-level. I’ve lost count Is the difference between the V-COMP (or V-COMP+?) significant in your experience? (not necessarily saying better or worse, of course)

Retro Sta-level. I’ve lost count You should work for them. Be their QC outside expert. They send them all to you for testing. You never have to buy or sell or ship one, and you always have one! P.S. said with smile generating kindness, not tongue in cheek er...cheekiness.

Retro Sta-level. I’ve lost count Is the difference between the V-COMP (or V-COMP+?) significant in your experience? (not necessarily saying better or worse, of course) I haven't used both at he same time but feel familiar enough to comment here. (Bear in mind, I've never driven two motorcycles at the same time either but can definitely tell the differences) The Retro is like a jacked version of the Sta-Level. A little hotter, more input gain and pleasant small amounts of even-order harmonic distortion up to some good solid gainy crunch the V-Comp is closer to the original Gates. It gets syrupy in the tonal impact it imparts but isn't as hot as the Retro The V-Comp plus is a MODDER's dream machine. you get the V-Comp plus the gain switch to totally jack the tone and get easily get it to where the Retro is and beyond. And you have several other compression levels at your fingertips. But you don't have to us any of that if you don't want to. Both the Retro and V-Comps have a tonal impact that is absolutely DELICIOUS to the ears, in a manner of speaking. You can't go wrong with either. Two of them will cost you a lot less money. You don't have to work as a consultant with audioscape to know this. The Sta-Level tone is damned amazing! Myself and everyone at Audioscape respect the Retro and all their other fantastic units.

It gets syrupy in the tonal impact it imparts This is such a good description. Thanks brother. interesting story: Kind of came up in discussion one breakfast at Summer NAMM where we were discussing the Opto/LA2a as being buttah and the V-Comp/Sta-Level as being syrup.

Acquired a grail. Even though I felt like I won the lottery when I sold my 1200 for $1950, I should have kept it and sold it for $7k in 2023.... LOL. I don't regret it though. Was not seeing much usage for me at that point. Have fun with it.

What pre are you using with your Retro STA John?
The Retro STA Level was described in a SOS review as like adding a spoon of cream honey to a cup of tea - that is the perfect description of my unit - it’s so thick and creamy sounding.
You can’t beat that hand made point to point wiring when it comes to tube gear - I love point to point wired tube amps too.
I think the key for me has been paring it with a Coil CA-70s. The two different tube topologies compliment each other and the result is the smoothest vocal sound I’ve ever achieved - which is only good news if you want smooth sounding vocals of course.

"Beer in mind, I've never driven two motorcycles at the same time..."
Beer has a way of causing problems with that...

LOLZ! I checked and indeed I typed 'bear' not 'beer' but I like where you're going with this!! I can see the headline in a couple of years: "Florida man leaves IPA tasting at local micro-brewery and dies in tragic attempt to ride two motorcycles at the same time"
