Blue light at night negatively effects circadian rhythm, our natural sleep-wake pattern. Macs with retina displays and iPhones have night shift modes. That may be a good way to test blocking blue light. Unfortunately are my place and at several studios around town they use giant TV screens and I think that might be part of the problem I had to get a new monitor after retiring the iMac, Samsung 28" TV, if I set it to Eco Saving Plus/Low it's pretty close to where I always kept the iMac. The problem with night shift is how much harder it makes your brain work to process reversed out type. White on a black background is murder for intelligibility. Now that I mention it, this white on blue ain't far off, pretty or not.

I'm in front of four computer screens all day, every day. I've used both regular and blue light lenses. Personally, I haven't noticed any difference. If you read reviews from glasses and lense companies, blue light lenses protect your eyes and relieve strain. If you read reviews from medical sources you'll find there is no scientific research to prove that blue light can damage the eyes or have other health effects. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade here. Might just be placebo effect, but if it works for you... Are you falling asleep any easier? I’ve always heard it helped with the circadian rhythm more than anything. Staring at blue light screens after sunset can make our bodies think it’s still daytime is the way I’ve understood it. I haven’t tried any so I’m curious as well. I should clarify that my earlier comment was not around the circadian rhythm issue, but rather general digital eye strain and corresponding symptoms. There's several scenarios for me. 1. I work 8 AM to somewhere between 5 PM and 8 PM. 2. I'm working a longer day or revisiting my workload later in the evening, ending maybe 10 or 10:30 PM. 3. I'm up late working in my DAW. 4. I'm watching a movie late into the night on the weekend. The times I have worn the blue light lenses have primarily been during my daytime working hours on my PC/screens and/or sometimes when working in my DAW. I have not experienced any difference in the ability to fall asleep in any of these instances. About the only time I have insomnia issues is when I stay up too late and get overly tired, and that happens regardless of whether I've been in front of a screen or not. In those cases 3-5 mg of melatonin does the trick (I know...another subject where there are questions...in this case it works for me).

I bought a pack of blue filtering reading glasses a while back and I do feel like there is less strain after sitting in front of screens all day.

Highland Dynamics BG2. Heard all the great things said about the gear for years and had a deposit down on one for eight or nine months. Hope Bryce and crew are doing OK. Sounds like component issues were just too exhausting to continue which makes me sad.

Picked up a beater (1994 Martin D-1) that had a decent Fishman active under saddle pick up already installed so I can slum around a few open mics here and there. I have a tonedexter I can also use with it when places don’t care if you bring something like that.

Finally found a reasonably priced mic clip that will hold my old EV mics with narrow diameters (but are too large for SDC clips). Eggsnow Microphone Shock Mount Clip on eBay for $10. Not sexy, but more solidly built than expected with rubber bands that grasp the mic firmly with no slippage. Comes with a complete set (4) of replacement bands. Pencil SCDs fit nicely too. I know this is a small item to mention in this thread, but mic clips that don't work well are a pet peeve of mine. I'm buying more.

"Ah one" "Ah one and ah two" "Ah one and ah two and ah three and ah four". Chris

I have 4 of the, two out of commission due to elastics breaking. Trying to find small hair elastics that can handle the duties.

Delayed my purchase of a Mac Studio or new Cheese Grater by buying yet ANOTHER 5.1 Mac Pro to replace one that's failing. Cost was about what I'd pay for the 64gb or gam and two 2GB SSDs in it anyhow.

I do think that a modern cheese grater will be in my future at some point down the road.

I was just talking to a video guy who was saying the Intel MP’s may see a longer life than expected because the guys who have paid the price of a small Lexus for a MP are concerned that the Apple Silicon MP will be limited in its upgrade ability. This is bad news for software developers because it could mean an extension in having to support to different chips. It could also means developers abandon Intel Macs while Apple still has a Intel machine for sale.

Stam 251. First impression: holy smokes: Whatever Floats (demo).wavThis is recorded through a newly-acquired Great River MP-4. Processed with a couple of UAD compressors in parallel and SSL G-bus and ATR-102 on the two bus. This mic—wow! The GAS is strong.

Acquired a grail. That’s great! The studio I work out of has an SP1200, Linn Drums, a DMX, and more, in Studio B (aka upstairs). It seems damn-near impossible these days to get anyone to show-up and play with the things though! Sad.
