Still working on the new tracking room. Just picked up 28 - 15" diameter Tube Traps. 8 - 18" x 18" diffusers ASC Tube Traps or knockoffs? |

Didn't want to pay over $14,000 for ASC ones.
I had considered building some.
But I Found very professionally built clones.
And for $500 for all 28 , I couldn't resist.
He said he put a team of builders together and built 380 of them.
He moved to a smaller place and these were some of the extras.
He has a 2 car garage full of the extras.
I might get some more.

Those $14,000 ASC's would cost over $30,000 AUD to import into Australia. That's why I asked! I've been building DIY's. It's a lot of work but genuine ASC Tube Traps are prohibitively expensive especially if you were to contemplate importing them. |

I just picked up a ARt ProMPA digital preamp for overflow channels until I can grab a few more Vp-28's. It was a tuff transition going from a 32 channel board to outboard pres. Those mpa's have their place. That brings me up to 19 channels of pre.

Snagged the UAD Fairchild Limiter collection for $4!!! That's cheaper than the beer I drank last night. Also just winged a trip to the Atlanta and Athens area. I got to see svart 's very impressive studio. It is incredibly well designed and equipped. Makes home feel like a flea market here in comparison, it's good to have something to aspire to, to see someone doin' it right. I get such a peaceful feeling in rooms like those. To see so much knowledge, hard work and experience manifested into such a fluid working environment. |

Km54 Km86i pair Ns10m pair Yamaha p2200 amp Just sold my NS-10s a few months ago to fund new tech for my little home studio. Trying not to look back, but I keep seeing them in high-end studio pics.  I'm very curious. I have currently use amphion one18's. I sold my Adam a7x's for them. I wanted to try something new. I'm finding my mixes are lacking in the high end now. I need to not be scared of the brightness these monitors have. Turns out they are a bit bright in the high end. I'm very curious about these ns10m's. I haven't ever heard them and need to rearrange some things to fit them in my studio. I think today is the day I'll plug em in. Can't wait. I mix at very low levels so I think they will work nicely for me to have as another tool. Honestly, my main reason for getting them was that countless albums have been mixed using these. I think that referenccing other mixes on them will be very telling of my room etc. as I'll be able to hear the mixes as the engineer heard them while he was working. That seems to me to be a priceless lense to have. And at $900 for a pair with an amp it was a no brainer for me. |

Yeah, there's the "if you can make these sound good.." part of it, (which I hate because I think it's true), but my understanding is the real reason people have them is because they became a reference standard. I have read that the early engineering pioneers use to travel with them; soon everyone knew what they sounded like, and eventually most every recording studio included a pair. Well, at least that use to be the case 20 years ago - now, not so much. Regardless, that's a functionality I really don't need. I would surely have kept them as a third wheel set of speakers, but I don't have the space or the money to afford that kind of luxury. I'm curious how they're working out for you. |

Physically large guitar cabinet is in the house. 4x12 G12-T75. This is the Fugazi / Siamese Dream closed back sound for me. After a lifetime of waiting I finally have a half-stack. It's making me play differently, which was the goal. I've already got some new riffs in the works.
By the end of the year I'd like to have a Marshall head and a Gibson guitar, in the mean time, rocking the Selmer and the strat. It feels like moving from one type of rock to another, almost a change in genre. Mostly I'm just impressed by how big it is, and sounds. The punch is very apparent also with the closed back compared to my 2x12 cabinets with open backs.

TLM67 with ioaudio U67 mod package. Haven't even heard it yet. Maybe the thing to do with the TLM67 frame is to put a DIY U87 circuit in there?

Yeah I wouldn't call yours bright, if I was being overly picky I would say there is a very slight rough edge around 10K compared to some speakers 10 times their price , and your room is not full of treatment, and your position is very near field ! I liked them in your room. If the Amphions are bright I might a just the height! While not exactly my taste I have to say I respect Them and see why John and others love them. |

UAD EMT 140 plate reverb! Also was $24, I really shouldn't have bought it b/c I'm supposed to be saving for final payment on the Stam Audio SA4000. I been A/B it with my go to reverb plate PT D-Verb ( don't laugh at me ) and find it a great alternative to D-Verb. I really like Plate C with 1.6-1.8 reverb time on the slider, then taking the hi shelf Eq and cutting 20khz half to full on the plus/ minus knob ( turn knob towards the left ). It's great for adding depth and liveliness to a vocal and I mostly mix trap, rap, trap n b, r n b, pop etc so for a singer songwriter ballad this setting would be gold!

I'm having Jeff Hedback of HdAcoustics improve my room. I wish I would have involved an acoustician from the beginning. I know some people can figure all the ins and outs of room acoustics in a DIY way, but I couldn't and wasted money in the process.

New snare drum storage rack and piccolo Mapex MPX 3.5x14" snare drum. Both on blowout prices from Guitar Center for this 4th of July weekend. The piccolo is instantly a lot of fun. Can't wait to put new heads on it next week. Attachment Deleted |

I picked up a new Fender Elite P Bass on Saturday with the 15% off coupon at guitar center. They had just gotten it in and it was set up great right out of the box. The best Fender bass I've played.

If anything, the Amphion Amp is bass heavy. Yielded mixes that were anorexic for me. I'm now using a cheap class A/B amp and getting great results. Love my One 18's and this amp with them. This makes me think our rooms are playing the bigger role in our experiences. Seems highly likely to me. |
