Hi all,
I'm just finishing a mod on a Studio Projects T3 with a RK12 and a T14 tranny. After that I'm planning to mod my 3 Rode NT2 mics. I'll post some clips next week when I get a chance to record next.
I'm pretty sure the RK47 or RK7 from microphone parts is the way to go on these, but I have heard of people putting RK12s in there also.
Anyone got any observations / thoughts on the best route on this?
Cheers Craig

Hi all, I'm just finishing a mod on a Studio Projects T3 with a RK12 and a T14 tranny. After that I'm planning to mod my 3 Rode NT1 mics. I'll post some clips next week when I get a chance to record next. I'm pretty sure the RK47 or RK7 from microphone parts is the way to go on these, but I have heard of people putting RK12s in there also. Anyone got any observations / thoughts on the best route on this? Cheers Craig is this the original nt1 jim williams designed? i have one of those, jim actually modded it to be what he wanted it to be, before rode dumbed it down, i used a tskguy K67(groupdiy) capsule in it, he's good, and it's an 87 killer imo

Hey Tony - Yep it's the original one. I've had one for years and recently bagged another two locally.
Interestingly Matt from Microphone parts seemed to not like a K67 style capsule in the NT2 - but YMMV.
How do you find yours with the K67? - Have you got any audio samples you'd care to share out of interest?
Cheers Craig

Cheers Craig It's killer, as far as samples, unfortunately, my studio is REALLY down right now, i'm doing a major overhaul. i can tell you that Jim(he lives a couple blocks from me), designed the mic for a k67 capsule, so...? I know when he did his thing to it, he said "if you replace the capsule, make sure you use a k67, thats what i designed and optimized it for".

I tried replacing the capsule in one of my original NT-2's I designed for Rode. I used a rk-12. It didn't work out well. I put the original capsule in.
The reason is the domed mount, it creates a mid bass resonance that you can't remove. It is a reflection. The original capsule with it's thinner low end and bumped upper end seems to mask most of that resonance.

Yes, I miss stated, Jim designed the original nt2, not the nt1 or nt2a...I think?.. I have the original nt2 that Jim did, I pulled the inner mesh, and used a tsk k67 in it, it sounds kill!

I've not placed the order yet so will re-think this.
