Hi guys,
i never thought something could speed up things for me since i have my system on SSD, running Win8.1 pro.
However, since it came with the board analysis tool, i tried ASRock XFast RAM utility in ver. 2.0.28.
My idea behind it was keeping the machine from writing and reading on SSD for temporary files, swap/pagefile etc...
Worked for me, so i did not bother further and use it since.
TODAY i came to the intelligent idea to look up for updates - and found newer version, just not on the ASRock page for my board.
So i updated to 3.03 and find myself very surprised. Not only the new RAM disc is free as in free beer, it also has no 4GB limitation anymore, is 64bit now, you can still lay all temp files etc. on it AND it has this option for "ReadyBoost".
While i thought there is not much to win from a ReadyBoost-like feature and thought 8.1 would already manage this for the best....
...Well, i was wrong. After installing, directly after reboot i notice a MUCH higher responsiveness of the UI, much faster loading times for nearly everything. I never thought my system could be "boosted" this much after already beeing on SSD. But it did. I am actually shocked that i did not try this earlier and still can't get the great feeling of everything beeing faster on my fingertips. Even if people might think this maybe comes with some drawback - i don't care. It definitely works for me. It works (really great) with Sonar, it works with Mixbus, it just works and is fun to use.
Wow.
Now the good news - it is free for ALL mainboards, no limit to ASRock products. I let a friend of mine test this on her newer machine, she was totally surprised this worked out of the box for her with much improved system-up time immediately and faster file operations as well as improved UI responsiveness.
I know it's just another kind of caching method, but, oh boy - it doesn't matter for me - it just works. As an IT guy, i did not think something could make such a difference if you already have an SSD.
So - a definite keeper for me. Maybe for you, too.
