Yeah he's great. Very laid back style and down to earth. He loves the Martechs too. I really mis mine. Need one again.

Apparently, there's a total backup of production on the mss-10's. Nobody has them.

"There's a lot of tracks, there's a lot of summing going on here, it's all coming out on 40 tracks. [on the analog desk] "

SSL bus compressor, 4:1 ratio, 10ms attack, quickest release as long as you don't really hear it.

Question: I assuming the big, wide snare sound at the 8:11 mark is coming from squashing the room(s) mics and bringing that up at that point in the song? If so, when the room is being squashed is anything simultaneously done to the direct snare mic channel and the overheads, or is just the squashed room added?

Yes I agree from what I see but what AD DA converters is he using and how does he interface all of them ?

The best comment was his reference to hating stems and how they don't work in relation to the 2-buss. The 2 buss is where all the glue takes place and a mix gels into one cohesive sound. The crunch of the SSL buss comp or the smoosh of a 33609 or crush from any of the many brick-wall limiters you can use... all account for something that doesn't happen from stem remixes or mix variations. And the but about using stems to supplement live performances gets me right in the feels.

yea heard that what is a Stem... not sure I understand the concept. bounced audio files of like instruments separate from the final mix, or individual instruments with all their processing done, this way movie makers can edit in specific parts of a tune into their movie, TV shows, or live performers can use the stems as their backing tracks minus the main vox to sing on top of in a quasi live performance, they are also useful for OTB mixers to recall and make small tweaks to the individual stems without having to go through the pain of recalling an entire analog mix set up. Some mastering engineer's request stems so they can mix them together as they see fit, which i find a laughable request personally, may be good for someone who's quite bad at mixing?

I've had mastering engineers ask for the full Pro Tools session with all my various mix files, so they can tweak it to see what would happen with the master. Uh no. You're not messing with my mix. And since then, I only send pre-mastered mix files. Don't EQ it, you can make it louder and clean up the heads and tails. That's it. Know what I mean, jellybean?
