Anyone keeping one on hand in the studio? What type? I had a Halon extinguisher in my sports car but I don't think they are available anymore.

Nah, Halon extinguisher have been abandoned because of the ecological/environmental....ah, it is as odd as green electronics if you ask me. Now you have to choose between foam and powder extinguisher. Both make a huge mess in comparison to the clean halon ones that aren't allowed anymore. I would go with the powder ones for sure. When electricity is involved, foam extinguishers need a minimum distance to be safe for the one using it. Which is for sure not guaranteed. If there is fire people most probable would not think about such things. Also i consider the powder ones to be less "devastating". IMHO, halon extinguisher where optimal for avoiding unnecessary secondary damage...

It seems as if I might get a better insurance rate for the premises if I show I have an available extinguisher, hence my question. The Halon one I have in my car is around fifteen years old and the pressure has fallen below the "usable" level. I wonder if I can get it re-pressurized anywhere. If I can, I may put that up in the studio. otherwise, powder it is. Thanks for the reply.
