Slate product demo vids are a bit painful but at least he attempts to show how his processors work in relation to different styles. Every single example he posts is some 70s clip that has a detuned snare with a wallet taped on it with rhodes and other whack shit. WE GET IT YOU SMOKE WEED MAN.
I said in an earlier thread but 2016 is the year of mic preamp emulation and here we are. Wonder how this really holds up, will manufacturers start designing preamps with these softwares in mind? How close is slapping the plugin on a presonus audiobox to the actual modelled preamp? What effect does the converter have on all of this?

This kind of stuff bores me. I'm not talking about the music as much as the preamp concept.

style aside, the recording sounds great, the idea of emulated pre's is ridiculous on it's face, and for obvious reasons.

It looks like his 500 series preamp is going to sell for $599, but the "transformer emulations" or whathaveyou will be $29. So, in theory, for $58 I can transform my transformerless console into an API/Neve. Cheap enough where it's worth a demo without his preamps at 6 bones a pop.

So the virtual preamp roundup. We have the Avedis E27 which is the EQ that also includes the preamp section: pspaudioware.com/plugins/equalizers/psp_e27/The Kush mentioned here. and the Slate Digital which I don't think I need to link. So wait, I thought the FG-73's "line" section was emulating the preamp drive section, but what is VCC's Brit - N doing? what's a music? am I a person? I don't know what's going on anymore. help.

I feel like this subject has been driven into the ground, but what's the difference between this and using any 'fast clean' mic pre with any pre-amp emu software? ...Uhmm.. Marketing??

I said it all the time and I am not a pro. I even dont think about those mix pre sims. Uhm yes maybe you can use them in a mix to get some saturation. But for tracking? I love to use the real 1073. If thats not enough? We have dirt cheap studios in town one with the SSL Dualty and one with a Neve (forogt the type). They charge about 500-600 Euros for 8 hours. Great tracking room etc. If I have a Band I would invest 2-3 days in one of the studios instead of using preamp sims in a medicore room with no pro AE tracking you.
