I guess Avid didn't meet their 2015 PT12 subscription target.
I feel bad for the employees.

I started working a tiny bit in logic for 2 reasons, 1-I have a shaken faith in avid, 2-I think logic may be more laid out/better for songwriting.jp Plus i can hassle wiz or nofilterchuck anytime i want for info haha

Hybrid setup running Reaper for the past 18 months. So far, so good. We don't do anything involving midi.

and of course probably very few of the employees let go ,had much of anything to do with the bad decisions avid mgt made over the last while that so riled up its customers.

Funny how my HDX system just ticks away day after day helping me make music - and facilitating a way to make 100% of my living in music -- without any drama...... Weird.
Guess I better start looking behind me...... :-)

Guess I better start looking behind me...... :-) And when you want to update, get ready to spend $1000. That's cool with me, cause I normally skip a version, or two or three. IMO, that's cheaper than playing Avid's subscription games.... The drama lies in the Avid speculation game - not in the system. At least for me. I get way more drama from my apple software / OS than I do from the Avid stuff. If Logic operated identical to PT, I'd still hate to go that direction, cause Apple has become so...ugh....I don't even know how to put it. But as much as I like their OS's, I sure don't dig the way they are constantly updating their OS's, and making you play THEIR game, instead of working the way YOU (me) wants to.

Actually, PT12 is actually, really great...I bought it and have made peace with $100 a year. PT's is still the easiest to get around in for me, but as Tony said, I find Cubase and Logic to be much more suited to what I do - building tracks myself. Cubase is great - and might be the middle ground for me. Logic is the most feature rich it seems...as far as sounds...

Guess I better start looking behind me...... :-) No drama, or speculation. Just a bunch of employees getting chucked out the door and wondering how they are going to make their living. I like Protools, it's the only DAW I really know and it does pretty much what I need it to. I also upped to PT 12 at $599. I don't like the way Avid behaves however. Actually, I have probably never disliked a company the way I do Avid right now. It's too bad the employees seem to be paying the price for upper management behavior.

Funny its most often what I do with Apple. I skip versions because out of a sudden they upgrade the os and your logic version is not running on this os. Same with the I Pad etc. With logic it most often its just a facelift. I skipped 8 but 9 and 10 where must haves as composer. The upgrade policy was more cool when logoc was in the hands of german emagic. The coin has two sides apple made something very special out of logic and I like it. I think PT and Logic focus on diffrent needs, even if you can get the goal on both daws.

Was wondering why everybody at the AVID booth looked so depressed. For the Video side of things this should be a great year with all that U.S. Election money going to advertising. I keep hearing about TV stations and AD guys getting almost everything on there wish list. I do have to say though the Nuage controller with Cubase was very impressive. Acids NAMM booth was as big as all the Chinease speaker companies who were trying to make a big splash and become the Asian JBL, maybe they should back off and co-op with Apogee ?

I wish they'd hurry up and go under so the original guys can buy the remains back and relaunch Digidesign and get us back on track again. To HADES with Avid. You heard me, TO HADES. I am sorry for using such strong language, Zeus forgive me.

I ll bet they are laughing all the way to the bank and wouldn't touch it. If you think AVID is bad, think Sony, Panasonic and Harman, they make AVID look like a customer service king! AVID is a video company, they were 1/2 of the old Digis business, who ever buys when it goes under either will want it all or strip it bare. The sad thing is Music Group, AKA Behringer might be the best buyer If they want in on the video world. My hope is SSL! Please Peter Gabriel! Please!

One original guy is retired and the other is CEO of Dolby.
A friend of mine and I took the very first digi systems into Lucasfilm rather than use their New England Digital rooms. The company's service improved dramatically after Avid took over. Previously they were promising lots of features that never worked right. They only got a pass because Apple was doing the exact same thing.
Considering that Avid accounted for more than half of Digidesign's income, they'd probably be long gone without Avid. Avid made money during the '90s when it was well worth upgrading hardware every three or four years but that ended in 2002 with their HD systems. It got the job done and still does in many studios. Between that and Apple taking all of the low-end video editing away, Avid has not been doing well at all. They tried to enter the hobbyist market but fell flat on their face because of the recession. At this point they are a major player in network television and feature films. Pro Tools is standard for audio post production while large music studios are still running decade-old Pro Tools systems.

I wonder what parts of Avid saw the majority of lay offs.

I suspect mostly middle management. They had 2700 employees six years ago. They also seem to be hiring in Florida and the Philippines.

Well then, sir, i make no wonder it took 40 years to get this far with the Star Wars legacy. Clearly, the man was wasting time on other projects.

There's not enough whiskey in this 1 liter bottle of Maker's Mark to help me get through this, Bob.
