I hate the mic placement, I'm trying to think of the last time i heard an acoustic sound like any of those files... in a room? the bottom is whoomphing, i can't stand that, and it kinda blows the test for me on all the mics, i know.... always a critic

a good collection of mics, but I have to agree with tony on this, that low end makes it hard to discern which I might like best because the only thing I want to do is change the placement on every file haha

I thought the U87 sounded pretty good, but overall not so much, agreed.

Complete wrong application IMO. I use my Royers as a multi mic over the right shoulder (right handed guitarists), but I am a pencil guy all the way for the main mic recording of acoustic guitar. Especially bluegrass, where they want that tight bottom end punch in their acoustic guitars to drive the band well. This is a good example of that tight punch. You can hear his drive and all the subtle runs, too.

It made me not want any of the mics. I did not like the pickup on any of them for that guitar/room/player.
I expected better from the shootout.

Sounds like it was placed over the sound hole...
