I know what you mean. I use a fairly good mic stand, well made, cost around $60, but I've seen my mic start to slip and caught it one too many times. As soon as I have some extra cash, I'm gonna go ballistic and find the superman of mic stands. There was one incredible company at AES, with these amazing stands that have a ton of weight, ultra firm grip, look seriously well designed and are easily configured to adapt to any situation. I've forgotten the brand, but will look around to see if I can locate the company. The Latch Lake stands are great, no tipping there. I plan to buy at least one this year. I use sand bags on the base and I also have an old Atlas triangle base stand with wheels. The Atlas won't tip, but the shock mounts scare me as they can sometimes slip. Also, I use those quick connect clips on most of my mics as they allow a super fast changeout. I don't dare use those with my Beezneez body 47.

I was looking for those a while back. Never thought about looking in the camera gear section. I ended up making a few out of old blue jean pant legs filled with sand. These are much nicer.

I just bought a pair. Really great stands. Super smooth and easy to adjust. Hardly require any tightening to be rock solid (it's that friction less thing). Damn solid and long reaching.

Those stands were the ones I was thinking of Jesse, thanks.
I would love to see one of Shannon's new 251 style mics.
How close is that Alctron to the real 251? It looks like a few name brand mics I've seen sell for $800-$1900, which obviously use that base and head basket and refinish it.
Is it close enough to the Elam 251, or would the difference in body shape affect the sound too much?

Yep. Pretty affordable when comparing to Latch Lake and others of high quality.
