I went Friday. Same experience as J.W. After attending the Gym all week (New Years resolution) I was stumbling around after 5 hours of walking. Going to take the day off and go Sunday.

LOL Yeah, NAMM seems "broken". Not sure what the fix is. They definitely seem to be clueless. To give non-attenders a clue as to the insanity, the ambient noise floor at the LTL booth was constantly between 105-110dB. All day long..... If CAL OHSA ever went in they would shut this show down pronto. NAMM would be forced to requier sound-proof booths in every exhibit that generates a sound. 85 db is the official NAMM SPL limit. Maybe I'll call the Cal OSHA office and file a complaint? Then y'all would have to rent sound booths next year or pay for an upstairs suite. This makes one wonder how the meter maids at NAMM can complain about a noisy booth when the ambient noise is already at 110db?

With us both plugged in, you'd never know that we were playing with the Steel drum booth blasting us at 120. We were guessing where each other were.

I thought NAMM didn't used open to non-dealers until the weekend. A few years ago, the SPL police were on the case, but last year they seem to have given up. The drum room is notorious. Earplugs a necessity. Noise is why a lot of the big companies went upstairs to the salon floors this decade. Hall E, (what Richie Fliegler calls 'the nut room') is my favorite place at NAMM. Kinda sorry I'm not there, but then again, I don't miss the aches and being on your feet all day. I'd hate to work a booth at NAMM.

So , is summer Namm in Nashville better? or AES in October? in LA cheers Wiz Unless it's grown hugely, Namm Nashville is at best 1/10th the size of what Anaheim is. The only music/audio show that eclipses NAMM Anaheim is Music Messe in Germany - which actually dwarfs NAMM. Now, that could be good or bad depending on your perspective. IME, AES is a much better place for checking out pro audio. At least you have a fighting chance of hearing a decent demo. NAMM Anaheim is a spectacle, but don't expect any decent demos on the "floor". Some manufacturers rent out rooms above the floor where you can get some cool demos though. Really, trade shows overall are in decline. No real need for them as the internet seems to have taken their spot. If you want to see friends and network, it's great though. Just my $.02US. :-)

Quick thoughts, Mr Spock is one of the most enthusiastic, and one of the best demo guys on the Floor, Helps with having great gear ! I see what JK loves about that New EMI COMP!!
Brad McGowen, even without a voice is a great designer, and I'm not just saying that because I want to work with him on a project or 2 or 3!
Doug Fern is one cool dude to hang with!
Ward is pretty much who he is here Fing nuts in the best possible way!
The fine Folks At PMC had a cool little Demo room, but I know that Skan speak mid and it sounds way better than it did today !
Paul Wolfs new little board looked way cool !
The new trident 88 looked cool but was packed very tight BUT LOVE THAT EVERY BUTTON HAS AN LED!
Noah Shain is a super daddy , so we didn't get to hang , but being DAD is far more important than being Super Producer/ AE at least I know some kids who think so!
Guys at Harrison are as cool as mixbus or any of their boards!
If your female you must wear biker chick / Rocker Girl clothes that in 95% of the time comes of as Gay bar and adds years to their look. M If you work in MI or DJ you must dress in Black Bowling shirt like every GC Dude or heavy metal or punk. Exception if you are From China you buy your suits from Sears, JC Penny has better. Best laugh Amphion set up in DJ hell!

I got back last night from what was probably my last NAMM appearance. I'm still trying to kill the massive headache I got. This was the most crowded, noisy and disorganized NAMM show I've been to since 1976. BTW, that burger they sell there is unexceptable as dog food. My wife got a refund. The crowd was older and much fatter than in recent years. You do need to watch out for the 400 pounders using those powered carts, if they roll over your foot it can break bones. The old 80's metal heads and girlfriends are a sore sight to see. I wish I had eyeplugs to go with my earplugs. BTW, the NAMM office in the lobby has free earplugs for you, I suggest you pick up a pair... Hilariously sad take on your experience Jim. It sounds like a weirdly disorienting circus.

It was totally useless to try and audition ANYTHING. The background noise made that impossible. You step outside to get a break and then you get pounded by a DJ with the subs at +110db "exercizing" your guts while you try and eat lunch. BTW, that burger they sell there is unexceptable as dog food. My wife got a refund. Agreed. Didn't eat a thing on site. The gridlock around the convention center required a one hour wait to get into the parking lot. We were lucky to get into a Disney-only lot as most were being sent off to Anaheim stadium, 4 miles away. I don't know about you, but that adds a little too much distance considering you will need to put in about 4 miles to just walk the floor. Did NAMM have a falling out with Disney, cos we lost all the parking! I had to beg off a soace from a buddy staying at the Super-8! As in recent years, the freebies are mostly gone as are the name acts that used to perform there. The last 7 years have been tough and it shows at these conventions. Shoe-string budgets are now the norm as most are just trying to hold on. WHAT FREEBIES??? spock didn't even give me a free Geranium as expected. What's the good of NAMM if I can't get a free house plant? The crowd was older and much fatter than in recent years. You do need to watch out for the 400 pounders using those powered carts, if they roll over your foot it can break bones. If they tried to stand, they'd break every bone in their own feet... at what point do you come to your senses and just put down the fork??? Their glands are saying "Shit, don't blame this shit on me!" The old 80's metal heads and girlfriends are a sore sight to see. I wish I had eyeplugs to go with my earplugs. Holy shitballs, you aren't kidding!! More tophats than a high ball from the 1800s!! Was there a slash look-alike contest going on that I missed out on? $2000 jeans all around, men and women in corsets, Japanese pixie girl type things. Young fluff... oh my oh my oh my... NAMM is not the best place to see/audition new gear. The massive crowds of non-music retailer attendees crowds out all the booths and demos so retailers have a much harder time evaluating new products. It was almost useless with very few discoveries... except for Friedman's new stuff. Friedman's new compressor pedal is AMAZING. Dave Friendman is a gem and I got to shred the crap out of it for an hour or so without any complaints. That made the trip for me. It was great seeing some of you other monkeys too.

What about summer NAMM in Nashville? Different thread? I'd love to meet some people down there. It would be fun to do a RGO get together like when Wiz was in country around summer NAMM ! Maybe we could get somebody like Spock to get us badges if we paid !

Maybe we could get somebody like Spock to get us badges if we paid ! Ya! I have a bass sponsor that is going to be displaying there. They asked if my band would do a showcase on Broadway which would be cool (it's only in the works at this point), but I guess that doesn't mean they will get me a badge. I suppose I need to ask! But I'll probably go either way. Would really like to meet some of these RGO people face to face.
