Hey guys,
I've got a Hairball 1176 Rev A that was built by GrahamTec. I've noticed it's pretty noisy, both white noise and a fair amount of hum. Is that normal for the Rev A?

Rev A has a great deal of hiss normally. That's why they did the later LN versions (low noise). It shouldn't have much hum though.

Shouldn't be any hum! But the white noise (hiss) as svart pointed out is completely normal. It can be modded to Rev a/b which could improve things.

clip please? you could try delidding and very carefully spinning the toroid to see if you can vanish the hum, or shield the toroid with some ferrous grounded metal.
RevA= noisey, put it on a snare, and gate it off 8)

RevA= noisey, put it on a snare, and gate it off 8) normally, that noise is pretty low in a RevA and it makes it very useful on vocals too. White noise has it's benefits in vocals (air) and snare (adds to the snare wires effect).

Yeah, it's currently on snare duties at the moment. I'll get a clip up to see what you guys think.
I honestly have no basis for comparison. It's far noisier than any other piece that I have. And I'm fairly certain that this is a new issue. I mean, I've had the compressor for a while now, and I'm just noticing this noise on this last project I'm mixing. I haven't really noticed it before.

They are def noisy but maybe a cap is bad if it all of a sudden started doing this. Luckily it's a low count component circuit, so if it is like a bad cap or solder joint tracking it down shouldn't be too terrible.
