I use Windows Remote Desktop on my laptop when I'm tracking myself. It takes control of my DAW's PC and let's me be a long way from the PC to record, do punch ins etc on vocals and acoustic guitar.

Sure, that is always a possibility, Team Viewer goes into the same direction. A potential computer security problem with these remote software is, that they are more widely used and give control over the complete machine and not only the DAW. In case someome hacks into the WIFI net, however, special DAW remote software server and client systems like the before mentioned are much safer. The chance somebody takes control over the complete machine is minimized. Just a sidenote...
