Its so great to read and hear from people that live in reality and know what is really going on in music and also the world in general . TODAY SUCKS !!
The music is just a reflection of people in general today , shallow , empty and soulless .....
All they care about is being famous and making money , THAT IS IT , nothing else matters .

He was in G3, that project is all about music, guitar in particular. They really inspire other musicians to push their limits which is cool.

Yes, you have a point (or two). But there was always music that sucked, it's not a new phenomenon. When I was young, there was that bubblegum crap, remember 1910 Fruitgum Co.? Major suck. Then there was Amen Corner (although Andy Fairweather-Low later turned out to be quite an accomplished musician, playing with Clapton etc) and Bay City Rollers. There was a lot more of the same that I had to endure. A lot of fabricated bands that were only out to make money. Mind you, the same could be said of Led Zeppelin, one of my all-time favorite bands, they were formed with the clear intention of making money, only they were four amazing musicians. Point is, bad music is not particular to 2014, you always had to weed out the crap and look for the good stuff. And don't let me get started on shallow, empty and soulless people in the 1960s, 70s, 80s.... At least it seems that, today, people wake up and question stuff a lot more than they used to do. There is hope

BUT and thats a big BUTT........there was also "CLASSIC" Albums being made and released back then to counter act the crap . Today we are left with NO classic albums being made , just crap ......McRecords . Besides country......what are some Classic Albums that were made in the last 10 years ? I'm talking about stuff that is true classic like the best albums released in previous decades , 50's , 60's , 70's , 80's , 90's .....

I think we are just waiting for the next evolution in music. To me, the classic records define new sounds, new sub-genres, etc. It seems like we have run the gamut of what can be done in the current stylings - I think this is what we all sense and feel - but change will come, there will be a new sound, a new genre and thus new classic albums.

Amen. Get off my lawn, pesky kids! Hey popman, I'm not even sure what this means, or where it's directed? It comes off as a diss based on the tone of your posting patterns, care to clarify?

Anyway, I agree with both levon and scum, and i hope heartfelt is right! the problem is the crap music has become ubiquitous and acceptable, hardly anyone knows the difference andymore, and their is very little great music to off set that pain! This kick/snare drum replacement thing is out of control, in combo with the massive amounts of compression everyone uses, it has the musical equivalence of flipping a hi voltage light switch on and off over and over?? It has its place, but geeezshh.. I honestly think a vast majority of people who record, don't have a clue what a well tuned drum kit sounds like in real life?
Seriously, we've devolved to the point where people who spin records of other peoples music, actually are called "musicians" today....WTF, really?

How can you not know what that means? It's like the #1 archetype cliche of what grumpy old men say...which is the tone of the article--sort of self deprecating humor. But the "tone of my posting patterns"--I have no idea what THAT even is. Care to clarify?

self deprecating humor is when the person who's making the statement does it to themselves.
clarification- IMV, you tend to be condescending and a bit self righteous in your posting.
edit; apologies for the over reaction.
