I am realizing a few members use or have used Soundcraft Ghosts. I guess id like to optimize my set up. I've been using it with just a minor upgrade in the master section for awhile now. I have a ton of outboard and really just use the ghost for monitoring and routing via patchbay. I've never tracked using its preamps but have used the eq and its alright. I usually just insert my outboard but not always. So I'd like to know how you have/had your outboard connected? Did you build special cables? Has anyone used one with the capi aca summing? Are any of you following the summing with some Neve or API type preamps? I've been wavering on upgrading weather its in the form of a mod or getting a different console. I am not unhappy.

The Ghost is a decent work horse console with the potential to be almost world class, but at the end of the day It's still a semi modular Ghost! The routing trumps any of the Delta/ Venues in a studio situation, but the frame is its biggest compromise. A Modded ghost is a great sounding board, but if you ever get tired and want to upgrade from a modded Ghost you will never even come close to recouping your investment, but you can upgrade in chunks, so if you know this is what you want it's pretty damn attractive! My biggest Ghost problem is the fact that the guys at Harmon didn't do anything more with the transport control!

Thanks Eric. Yeah I'm aware of the upgrades having no influence on the resale value which is a bummer. I come from a family of sailors and consoles are very similar. To quote a friend: "the two best days of a man's life is the day he buys his sailboat and the day he sells it." Replace sailboat with mixing console. I'm leaning towards the aca summing mod. Its something i can do and it seems to make sense that it would have a pretty significant impact. It's gotta make a difference right?

IMO, just pick up a delta for a song, the delta 8 will give you about everything the ghost has connectivity wise, and is a MUCH better console to mod, it's worth it based on the fact that it's modular alone, you will never be shut down no matter where you are in the process, fully modded JW master/channel strips are things of beauty, as good as it gets kinda stuff, and you can add all the bells and whistle you want.., including an ACA summing section that you can switch in and out, and never be shut down.

I've been looking at Deltas but it seems they have become a somewhat coveted item. Its a shame as i had a chance to grab a Delta that Kennedy had been selling but dragged my feet and blew it.

We have an old Series 30 Sound Workshop which we also use for monitoring and analog summing during mix-down. Attachment DeletedWe don't use the pre's and rarely use the EQ. Outboard gear is connected either directly to the patchbay or via XLR cables with XLR > Bantam adapter leads. Attachment DeletedHowever the Sound Workshop is soon to be replaced by a Neotek Elite when I can find an uninterrupted month to work on it. Attachment Deleted

Oh id just love a Neotek. With those vintage Neve's it will be a classy space. If you are referring to the 80 series rack (on the right in the first photo) it currently houses one vintage Neve 3115 converted to a Class A output stage with a Phoenix Audio TF1 mod kit, and a pair of Heritage Audio 8173 micpre/EQ's. We're planning on a couple more HA 8173's when finances allow. The other Neve'ish pre's are some SCA N72's. We have a 3 bay 42RU custom rack being built at the moment so that will enable the growing tower of gear to be rehoused.
