I'm not ready to attempt one yet and I've built a couple items now. Haha.

their mixes are so smooth and shiny , I think they use the silver bullet ? JK go for it and remember to check part orientation and polarity My first c12 psu I put one cap the wrong way; how the fuck could I be so blind ?

I would have an anxiety attack if I tried that.

The build threads for the CAPI stuff is so great that you can almost just look at the pictures and put it together. The VP28 really isn't much harder than anything else, just more time consuming.

Just don't trim the leads and solder blobs TOO flush! This can present a problem. Good thing for McGyvery

Just don't trim the leads and solder blobs TOO flush! This can present a problem. Good thing for McGyvery True true!! So you guys know, I cut the component leads on one of my 553Fs so flush that I cut through the solder pad and cut the connection to the trace. An experienced tech fixed it. I must say that the 553s are wonderful sounding!!

That's actually very helpful!! Most common mistake I see 1.Add solder to tip of iron. 2. Scrape off solder on (or around) the general area of the pad and terminal leg. If you follow the cartoon, you'll be fine. Some will argue you should cut the terminals first. Theres some theoretical validity to that, since cutting will stress the joint, but I would focus on getting it built, then worry about such details on your 5th build (or if you're taking it into space). Do something simple first don't wreck a VP28 learning how to soldier.

just watch some video on youtube, then take an old piece of electronics "anything" thats in your garage that you never use, smash it on the ground, pull out the pcb's snip some components off, and then resolder them back on in any old place to see how it all feels 8)
the vp28's are pretty heavy duty double sided boards, you'd have to really hammer at it to damage it....
