Looks like this just came out --- Langevin Am16 clone. Apparently it has an API-ish flavor according to the gdiy thread. Good price.

until Colin adds some REAL support for the not so easy- EZ F760 compressor project he put forth, i'm not buying anything from him ever again, i don't take kindly to wasting my hard earned on shit support, again, i'm not looking for someone to DIY hold my hand, and i'm not exactly a newb, but that project is a complete joke, and i'm just talking about sourcing the impossible BOM! Then u get to the build issues ever single person has had, as well as coy behavior by some who've actually profited from putting the project out, which is perfectly fucking maddening. Anyone wants to buy the EZ F760 carnhill paper weight component kit i bought from AML, and the faceplate, let me know, i'll give you a great discount. read and watch the life get sucked out of myself and others groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=40274.0

There was a time when all I did was make PCBs for projects handed to me on the group, but when I actually started learning about this stuff, I did build my way through all of it, this one included. I find your comment about this project being a joke a tad harsh, but as you see, my impression is not that of an easy project either. groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=40274.msg720876#msg720876"First of all, I once categorized all the projects into difficulty on my site - this is the only one I marked as "hard", so please done let it break your DIY balls. The calibration is unusually "hard", and if you can take this to completion, I bet you can build 99% of projects on the group in an afternoon."
I did work my way through a few problems, some related to the project, some related to my own shortcomings. I am not sure if your "coy behaviour from someone who profited" was aimed at me, but in any case, I would be happy to help in any way I can, if I can. I only see a question about the meter from you on the thread, which was already answered a few posts back. groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=40274.msg720941#msg720941If these anything else you feel I didn't show a willingness to answer, post it in the thread. I did build two, working channels, so I know for sure theres a way to get there at least. Gustav

Tony this is the kind of feed back we need to know as i was looking at it for my first build thanks Regardless of the quality (or lack thereof) of the EZ760 project, it is not a project suitable for beginners - at all. I dont know how that translates to the project in the original post or other projects by Colin, though. I have built a dozen 1073 for people who sent me a kit and paid for my time, and I would say, they were pretty much about soldering components in place and powering on. Gustav

Tony this is the kind of feed back we need to know as i was looking at it for my first build thanks One important distinction between this and the F760 project... this is an all inclusive kit, so you wouldn't have to source any other parts.... On gdiy Colin said the purpose of this kit was to make an easy to build project for beginners, with an API-ish flavor. That being said, if you're looking for an API sound (or just a nice preamp in general), I would just go for one of the jsteiger CAPI VP26 kits. They're a great first project, and would come out around the same price (or cheaper) than the AML kit. It also has fewer components, so it would likely be an easier build too. Not to mention the great support from Jeff, and you wouldn't be buying a brand new 'untested' project.

Not for beginners or people who've successfully built OVER 100 DIY projects either, it's the only project on gdiy that I'm aware of that u can't even complete a bom for, doesn't stop Colin from selling the partial kit though, yes I'm very bitter, gustav, uve always delivered on stuff, but this project is a joke that gave me NO advanced warning of its near impossible success rate when I spent $500 starting it, quite the opposite, Colin's build document makes it appear a no brainer, and I still believe I could successfully build it, but if I can't finish a bom I'm screwed before I can even take a whack, maybe there is a way, but unfortunately I don't have the experience to be a cross reference guru, ud think the creators of the project would step up in that regard considering the overwhelming proof of obvious pain the guys who've spent there hard earned are feeling while attempting this, so it's just bunk from top to bottom from my perspective
ill make a deal with anyone who reads this, u get me as manyshopping carts lined up to fit out this project as needed? I'll pay u $100usd for them. Fair warning, I've spend 10s of hours trying to work this out as I want a compex compressor over all the rest.

I'm trippin' on the bridged H pad for input gain control. Totally off road on that one, not something anyone ever suggests for mic use. It'd take a direct demo with test equipment to convince me this is a good approach. I went down the rabbit hole of converting it to a U pad, but it gets stupid with at least 20 trace cuts and path replacement wires. I'd personally hope it gets revised.

I can tell you what I did. I went through the BOM and got all the transistors off eBay. I think I bought enough for 20 units at the time and sold the spares at around my cost for them. I had many reports on finished units using those. I just put together a cart on eBay, most of the parts I could get from listings with +100 sold (thats for the part, not the vendor) on them. I feel that gives greater weight to authenticity. It took me less than 10 minutes - eBay.co.uk, just typing in the transistors one by one and dropping the first part I saw with previously sold items or good feedback into the cart (not checking prices). Cart is 34 pounds, with shipping from various vendors, and all transistors in larger lots than needed. I dont remember any other parts being a problem (apart from the stuff covered in Colins kit), but my memory may be off. You can also go hunting for replacements. I did that before I realised I could source them on eBay. I posted the list on the group. Even though its not verified, its worth a shot, since I did put some serious time with the datasheets into it. Gustav

Heres the list of replacements I came up with. I see we already had a few words on it. groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=40274.msg720068#msg720068The unit I put the replacements into is gone. I moved from one city to another and left some of my bench items with a local studio guy, so I could pick them up later. I never managed to get him to return a call or an e-mail again, though It could be a sign that it worked!? I would just get the transistors called for in the BOM off of eBay... Gustav
