And I completely stand by that comment. I don't NEED anything. Need is such a broad term in studio speak. Just ask my wife.

Get a 3630. I heard it's just as good.
Speaking of wives...dental hygienist today is talking my ear off about her hubby and his new "building a home studio"....how he was expecting all his sluttery to pay for itself with all the work he will be getting because the studio business is changing and going to home studios. Hookay. Then I get an email from a friend who play sax and has recorded here some...saying "hey-now I have my own home studio, so I can do internet tracks-let everyone know"...and I'm thinking..."man, I shoulda sold gear for a living". You think Vintage King is hiring?

I have been wanting to post some sort of meaningful reply. I can't think of anything, so here's a pic: Resistance is futile. Do it now JK, life is short.

The DRIP STA is pretty awesome. Maybe more mojo than the Retro. But... the one I have cost approx $1900 in parts.

I posted this somewhere else, but been listening to "Cop Car" that was (I believe) mixed by Reid Shippen that has posted on RGO before...The vocal just sounds amazing on that track. Sounds to me like there might be a whole series of compressors taking off little increments...You never really hear the compression working, but it's just up front in your face and up your nose. Beautiful job. littlesicily, see if you can get him to tell us what he used mixing that vocal! I'm sure the tracking chain wasn't on the cheap either...

I'll ask him. Last time I was at his place I asked about the particular mix he was working on...the vocal chain alone was like $100k of gear!

Yeah, Reid has worked for years to get his vocal chain how he likes it. Its nothing simple although he could get a great vocal tracking and mixing with not much. He's a bit of a wizard.
What parts are in your Sta Level that cost so much? Tubes? I know NOS tubes verses new tubes is the difference between 50 bucks and 300-500 depending on tubes. Again, that is part of the beauty of DIY. It's not always cheaper but if done right can be amazing in tone and price.

I know the tubes were upgraded, prob caps and more.
