Well, I just ordered my second Daking pre to accompany the first and the FET III.
Just need an Electra to complete the rig basic duties. It is getting mad press. Still, can't wait to hear the master buss through the pres AND the FET III. The comp sounded awesome alone.
Fun stuff. Rob
PS. Am I the only Daking nut?

Started a new mix last night, around 55 tracks… lots of guitars, strings and vocals as well as usual bass and drum stuff. I was prepping and organizing and then got the step where I patch the outboard in. In Repear (since SO has been buggy argh!) I do this by routing everything to a final buss then out to gerar and back in to a return buss and then to main outs/master fader.
I already had the gear in place from the acoustic mix… into 2 Daking MP1's and then to the FET III comp with 1.5:1, Med fast attack and release and 2-3db reduction. With that in place, as soon as I hit the last button and all went in… Wow, really wow!
I sat there A/Bing a bit as I hadn't taken time to do it previously. The difference was jaw dropping - warmth, depth, punch. I will never wonder again about gains with an analog buss. BTW, whoever (not here) said the FET III doesn't have a sound…. bull crud.
Gear is fun!

So, you're running the 2 bus line in to a pair of Daking Pres and a Stereo compressor?

I've been itching to grab a Daking Mic Pre IV but I'd need to unload a few more things than I want to do it right now.

Between this, VCC and VTM, it is a different world.

So do the Daking mic pres have a line in on them also or are you using something else in the chain to take the signal back down to mic level before hitting the pres?

No they don't and I wasn't sure how it would work. But with the volume down and the pad engaged, it seems to do wonderfully.

Daking FET II and pre one here. Solid, not overly thick/ vibey to my ears, but good.
I'd love to hear more about using the slower release times on the comp. I asked about that over on the other site and nobody really bit. I pretty much use the three fastest settings most of the time. Should fiddle about a bit more with the slower ones (modelled after compex, 33609 and Fairchild release characteristics IIRC).
Cheers, Geoff

When I bought the III, I thought it had those settings and bam, it doesn't... well, it has one, the auto setting which i think is the complex setting. I tried that on a mix but I didn't like the way the needle bounced all over the place. I wanted a consistent squeeze so I am presently using a medium release. No experience with the II.
