Hey All,
I'm moderately interested in the Aurora GTQ2. Seems like a pretty nice piece with a dual pre/eq and I expect the tone to be VERY different from my Midas board, but I'm curious about what users think of it. On another board it seems to be pretty hyped up by the creator Geoff Tanner (pulling a Slate as I like to say) and a dealer. Geoff seems to be a legit builder with a wealth of knowledge, but I want to hear some opinions without the hype here.

I owned the GTQC - and it sounded fantastic - when it worked...I sent it in for repair (on my dime) and had to send it back TWICE because it wasn't fixed. They paid for the shipping back. I ultimately chose to sell it after it was fixed because I just didn't want to deal with it. Now, that could have been an isolated incident - and probably was...It sounds phenomenal, though. I don't really know if I should even post that because it might discourage someone from trying it - but that was my experience.

BTW - probably a little rounder on top than a 1073 - a little more open. Similar huge bottom. If he had a 500 series, I would get another, but I know Geoff isn't going to go that route because of not being able to control the power supply. If you get a chance, definitely demo one. It's definitely a great sounding pre.

I invited Geoff Tanner to come by and his response to me was very disappointing. I told him there were lots of fans here - which there are - me being one of them as evidenced by the two previous posts. However, apparently, he was offended by the two previous posts. "Isolated incident," "don't want to discourage someone from trying it," "sounds phenomenal," "rounder on top/more open than 1073," "demo one, definitely a great sounding pre"...yeah - I really dissed his product.
You would think think this would be the perfect opportunity to come in and do a little customer service. Oh well.

I won't ever lie about my experiences with any product. That is what makes this the anti-Gearslutz. If anyone - even an advertiser gives shitty customer service, or makes a shitty product, then they should be held accountable.
BTW - I'll repeat again - my problems were probably an isolated incident. I've had problems with lots of different gear...If you get a chance to try the Aurora stuff - you should - the sound is fantastic.

There is no Canadian distributor for Aurora Audio, as far as I know. But I keep wavering back and forth between the GTQ2, GTQC, and the Heritage DMA73. Ignoring the hopefully isolated incident, can you compare the actual sound of the Aurora and Heritage preamps?

Personally, I really dig the fact that the Aurora units are stereo. Stereo pres with EQ for a bit less than a single channel BAE. I have to imagine that at this level of gear, if the track doesn't sound good, there are other factors that are coming into play.

It still sounds similar to the 1073 - we're talking minutae here. It's been a while since I've had one though, so I don't think I could really make a good comparison now. Btw - Heritage offers a stereo pre. Considering the recent experiences I've had, my choice would be the Heritage.

IMO, you did exactly the right thing by being honest JK, anytime i've had a problem with a piece of gear, my opinion of the company stands with how they respond to the problem, i've been completely ignored, and i've been treated like a king, the co's who've ignored never got business from me again, and the ones that served me as their valued customer, get my whole hearted recommendation and repeat business to this day, really kinda simple formula no?
Dude has a good point on controlling the PSU, they are hugely important, and make a rather large diffs IME, loading up a lindell rack vs a 51x rack would surely yield different sonic results. The power you supply to your gear is critical to it's performance, like octane in fuel if you will.

That's really unfortunate that he wouldn't come on here. I've always thought he was a good resource, I've never tried his gear (no Canadian distributor) but thought his Ivar Street console was a great idea.
