I'm not sure if he left igs or not but ANOTHER company has surfaced that is Igor again. Garsh Labs which is doing diy stuff and diy toy studios is the site. Just launched a db54 a take on the 2254 comp.

I have had the IGS OneLA for a couple of years. I have no experience with any other LA2A boxes so I cannot speak to sound comparisons. I can never quite tell if it's actually working correctly or not, as at times the needle is moving smoothly, and other times it seemingly jumps randomly. Also there is a thread on the purple site regarding its propensity to cut out audio until it is reset, with a conversation and some homemade workarounds regarding the way the power is handled internally. I do find it pretty sensitive to clipping, and when it does the sound cuts out and there is a pop. Thinking of selling it and going for the AudioScape box.

I think I've read that that unit is extremely power hungry and you need a pretty beefy psu it run it correctly.

I own the IGS AUDIO TUBECORE 3U ME vari-mu comp. I purchased mine used although it was only two months old at the time.
I have communicated back-and-forth with Igor about that unit. He has been wonderful answering questions. I purchased some spare tubes from him, and those seemed to not match exactly, so at his prompting, he went ahead and sent me another pair of brand new tubes. Exactly how I would expect any great customer service agent to act. I know nothing about his past, but from my experience, his customer service reminded me of audio scape — on top of details and very responsive.

I also have a tube core but haven't gotten to really use it yet. However, it was mentioned that edcore transformers were used in IGS stuff and in the tube core it has Carnhill inpit and sowter output.
I'm excited to try all the different tube options on mine. Have all of them.

Huge fan of IGS here. I think he does a great job capturing a vibe in his units via Sowter/Carnhill and getting the essence of the his circuits right. Seems to use quality audiophile components where it makes sense, and I like what he has come up with each of his designs. To be honest I liked the Tubecore 500 for my needs better than the Rack unit, which is why I now have 4 of them Was quicker for me to really drive things harder and get the tones I prefer.

Yes I agree I think IGS falls into same camp as say Audioscape! On top of all the details that matter, gets it right with their business model, and straightforward! With all the BS out there in both mis-information online (mostly on other forums), and people treating custom made audio gear (mostly made by very passionate people) like it's something they purchased off amazon.com... I personally cant imagine having to deal with all that.

I wish the switches were a lighter torque on the tube core though. Takes quite a lot of effort to click it over and the click is so loud when really focused it's going to be hard to ignore. I think I'll end up swapping elmas out.
I love the Elma switches with capi ml2. Super light

No ‘recall’ but can really fine tune the tones I’m looking for. if I find a setting that kills on everything usually will just stick it in and rack and won’t touch it, so don’t need stepped knobs.

I can understand that. Im a big fan of stepped controls personally. I just wish the switch were easier to turn and not as loud.

I'm hopeful a company will find a way to reduce the cost of shielded input trafo's. I think if one could do it Edcor I have faith in. If you're talking about mu metal it ain't gonna happen. In addition to the expense of the material itself the forming and machining is quite expensive. There's a reason that you always see mu metal cans with die formed rounded corners and/or round cans - forming a sharp corner destroys the shielding properties so the cans must be die stamped. Also the can must be heat treated after forming to restore the shielding properties. Any conventional brake forming, drilling, etc destroys the shielding properties.

From Wikipedia MU: The name came from the Greek letter mu (μ) which represents permeability in physics and engineering formulae. Mu-metal typically has relative permeability values of 80,000–100,000 compared to several thousand for ordinary steel. It is a "soft" ferromagnetic material.

I recently purchased a used RM500ME -- stereo pultec-ish. I've only tried it in a few instances, but: - it sounds nice. Beefy low end - pretty functional with the separate boost/cut low frequencies - stepped pots for boost/cut feel quality - quiet as a mouse and rock solid-state construction.
This is one of the newer ones with the custom IGS transformers. I bought it for the flexibility of both single and stereo use. Good value there.

The IGS 500 vari-mu sounds great, it's built like a tank and mine has had no issues. I use it mainly on synths or backing vox.

Any more opinions on the IGS stuff? Specifically customer support? Maybe this Igor guy got his ducks in a row, seems this company is pretty stable and well distributed.

I have an Tubecore 3U. really like it. Igor sent me new tubes for it and sent the Elma switches too as I had an earlier one i got used and it had the cheaper switches. Let me perform the swap myself and helped me calibrate the new tubes. So i'd say yes!

I have a few IGS rack units (2 of them in my current avatar), and I dig their stuff on many levels.
First, they sound really great. Second, the build quality is top notch, like seriously good. Third, it’s very easy to communicate with Igor, fast response and things get sorted out. Very few products, how boutique they may be have ticked all these crucial boxes for me to be confident in my studio gear. They are also realistically priced and more imporrtant, me being in Europe myself makes it a no brainer to use gear where the service is close if needed. I could likewise give a thumbs up for the also Polish, Wes Audio, their approach seem similar.
I do not have experience on neither igs or wes 500 series, only 19” rack. So someone with 500 units might chime in specifically regarding them.

I've had several emails with him -- questions about my RM500ME and his other products. He always responds quickly. I like him. Also, I saw a post from him on gear whores where he talks about how IGS started making their own transformers because of COVID shortages. Now, they are OEM manufacturers for several companies. I think he's really come a long way since the "early days". BTW, I still love my EQ!
