Thought I'd give a nod to one of my new found Swiss Army knives. Many of you guys have probably checked this out already but if you haven't, just wanted to pass along this gem. Those of you who know me, know I'm not the biggest fan of software but this is a keeper. Easy to use and the best tool I've found for taking the zing out of a troubled mic. It seems more than a de esser to me. I realize that all a de esser is is a band compressor, but this one seems to have something going on that others don't. Check it out if you haven't already. Any discussion from those that have?

I love all the Fabfilter stuff - the EQ is my goto...just so easy to use and I like having the linear phase options. I probably need to use the DS more! Pro L is pretty awesome too. It's probably psychosomatic, but I have started to feel like the Slate FG-x is toying with the sound even with all of the knobs turned down. Pro-L makes what you put in louder...

The Pro bundle just happens to be on sale right now: FabFilter Pro bundleGonna demo them all, thanks for the tip. And I just got a $50 coupon from UA, they really know what they're doing. I need a raise.

Damn UA...
I recently sold an Apollo with all my plugs, but I still have a Sat Duo that I haven't upgraded the software on and it still has...ahem..."several" plugs on it...
You can clearly see my dilemma. I do want to try those pultecs, though...but I would have to start all over.

I see your dellima. I'd keep your "several" and not worry about it. The Pultecs are very good but not a necessity IMO

I am already pressing the dsp utilization on my Quad, and will end up buying another whenever I can find a deal on one. I want 16 outputs for stemming too. So I'll be chaining two together. It's interesting that UA requires a FW and an ADAT connection between two units, even when on Thunderbolt (which I am using on Quad #1).
Probably gonna add a Burl AD for two-bus printing via S/PDIF.
Absolutely, I need a raise.

Damn! Independently wealthy! Hah, not! Just spending a bit of my retirement fund. Not all of it though. That would be irresponsible! While I have been a player most of my life, I have not recorded anything with serious intent in 20 years. So, making up for lost time I guess. And I admit an irrational lust for gear. And even software. It's a disease, for sure.

The PRO DS is about the best one out there. Man - I had almost forgotten about this thing.

The fab filter stuff is great. I love the features and work flow of their eq. I just wish it sounded better, like flux. If it did I could get by with almost just their plugs.

I've kind've let the freaking fantastic user interface wow me...it's just so easy to use. Where does the EQ bother you, dandeurloo ?

I've kind've let the freaking fantastic user interface wow me...it's just so easy to use. Where does the EQ bother you, dandeurloo ? Here ya go!! These plugs look fantastic but I never found the eq's or comps to be any better than what I have. The DS on the other hand is what I need. I'm sick and tired of cutting out esses and treating them. If this is as good as everyone says then maybe it's time to drop close to two bills on an de esser. Ouch.

I love the freq. analyzer and the M/S features. But something about the sound isn't as good as the Flux eq. The Flux eq is one of the best. I was doing some mix tweaks with a client here and he even heard the difference and asked me not to use Fab EQ but use Flux. That was very surprising to me. So I asked him why and he said the other one sounds better. I said, your right! haha If I could have the best of both eq's I would be set for a really long time as far as ITB eq goes.

Johnkenn and Dandeurloo, what do you guys think of Equilibrium?

I haven't tried that one. I've heard it's good. I really don't get excited over having a ton of plugins so I haven't tried them. I think I work better with a slimmed down plugin list.

2 bills for a de-esser is a bit beyond the budget!! Although it seems like it can be used for other applications... Might have to demo it. I'm getting sick of slicing out esses!LOL
