Anyone used this box? Looks solid and has a lot of features. www.future-retro.com/products.html#!/db-Mastering-Unit/p/50659643/category=0 Seems more complex than I would expect too. I was hoping for svart to do something like this for his next project, but I'm not sure how much cheaper it can be done.

That looks like a cool box. They probably need to change the name from "mastering" unit....it's a 16channel summing, overdub analog zero latency cue mix for tracking, monitor switching, mid/side and parallel processing.....what amounts to a switchable patchbay for said overdub studio...which you could also use for some mastering like activity.

Seems really cool. For tracking, it has the 2 mic inputs in the front. You can switch between 2 flavors of preamp at the switch of a button, try a couple comps/eq's with a switch, and lay your tracks. 16 channels of summing when mixing, then some cool routing for when you're "mastering" your tacks or sweetening your 2-buss. As you said, it seems like a great little box for the overdub guy/small studio/electronic setup.

Yeah, that would be hard to beat price-wise. Assuming that the parts are as they say they are and all..

Yeah--and they need to include preamps. I was wondering why there were mic inputs but then they claimed the summing needed you to add preamps....it's so you can plug a mic into the front and scroll through your preamps? Really? once you have a chassis and power supply, why is adding two gain stages to make it a completely functional box too expensive? Not from what I've been told. Go ahead and bump it to $1499 and make sure the preamps are solid, clean, quiet high voltage ones. I wouldn't think it would be hard to allow the summing to switch passive and into the "switchable chain"....but, to have it and ASSUME someone is bringing a pair of two buss worthy preamps just to make the summing actually FUNCTION? I mean....you're now limiting yourself to people who own stereo stand alone preamps. This is a better swiss army knife, IMO--if this IS the piece you pick up that does everything but get you in and out of the computer. A mini desk for a mini overdub room.
