I have a ua 2-1176 that I just don't like at all so my question is there a mod worth doing or just sell it and get somthing else? I'd sell but I'm gonna take a loss but is the mod worth the money if there is one? Thanks

Just doesn't seem to have that 1176 sound at all.just kinda vanilla sounding I want my 1176 to compress but I want the vibe an 1176 imparts even just running thru most 1176 original or clones they in part some vibe good or bad this just seems meh. To me you use an 1176 for it's sound if it's not there not much reason for having one. Am I looking at this wrong?

Dan's stuff is first class the only thing wrong with it is once you have one you will want more....

Then there's the Warm Audio thingie. You might not like any of these other suggestions either. Find the easy path to sorting it out.

If you want real 1176 as close as it gets, with some super useful hot rod mods, just sell the UA and get the Serpent Splice, it's an 1176 clone, with 600ohm loading, side chain filtering, parallel blending, and switchable between RevA and D, the designer also used all old school FET's with the proper HFE measurements, if you want to buy a new, true to original vibe 1176, it's the only choice imo. I believe LesC bought one? id like to hear his impressions?

I've enjoyed my Warm WA76 until now, mostly on bass and vocals. I set up the Serpent Splice just to make sure it works, and just fooling around on bass it sounds great. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison yet, I've been just too busy with school startup, so no recording sessions since I got the Splice. I have some unprocessed vocals (female, thank god not mine!), and I'll try passing them through the WA76 and the Splice for a comparison. Hopefully, I'll have time in the next week or two and let you know.
