So here's the thread for local/national artists you think are pretty damn good. I'm curious to what you guys are digging from your own areas.
These guys are probably one of the biggest indie bands coming out of Ireland atm - Girlband. Absolutely amazing mix of Noise Rock with Dance Rhythms. Just went to the album launch and it was simply amazing:

I dunno, jazznoise, waiting 3:22 for a hook that never comes was a bit of work for me. I wouldn't say these guys are horrible, but I'd say they are the polar opposite of musical.

Watched 300 people singing along last week who might disagree. Like the metal thing, it takes a while. It's drawing from stuff like Scratch Acid, Jesus & The Mary Chain, Big Black, The Wire etc. It's all about the building tension and the noise.
But anyway, I'm not here to defend Girl Band. Post some local talent!

I must be too old to get this whole "play the song in one key and 'sing' it in another key" thing.

girl band has been on high rotation here. :-)
so much discordant talent in my part of the world. I saw a band a few weeks back where they congratulated the support act for mastering the one chord song!!!
here's another.

Barge and Zeahorse are pretty cool! Cosmic Psychos seem like a lot of fun - I enjoyed all the bogan references in the first video. Didn't know 'straya had so much cool music! Ward - maybe you'll enjoy this one more. This is an acquaintance of mine and a good friend of the other guitarist in my band in his group The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra. Really exceptional songwriting because, as they say, das Limerick Citayyyy
Then there's another fine Limerick band, Windings. They're just..Windings. Great guys, great band.

Boo, post it!
I have to say, the guys a great singer but I feel like Neil Young covers like that are people not 'getting' Neil Young. You lose the ramshackle, you lose the soul!

Some stuff I was thinking of posting but after Nashville , they just ain't worthy ;( I'll take imperfection and humanity over the uber over-polished stuff I hear from Nashville a lot of the time. But thank God for Outlaw Country, Western Swing, cross-over CRB etc. Roots Rock, Americana, Country-Rock etc. Where character in the voice trumps homogenized any day of the week and twice on Sundays. So post your imperfections!!

From my small hometown, as local as can be. Some easy listening stuff...Nora has a somehow unique voice i like, although in this video it isn't too obvious...pop production...

Well, these guys above (Salamanda) have some balls, playing in a "classic lounge", blending in with a symphony orchestra (around minute 9)....

Even captured the dark pulsing anxiety thing that the SY were masters of. I kept wanting to hear Kim Deal come in on vocals. Nice share!

I thought I had left this type of rhythmic, brooding, dark moody stuff behind me in the early 90's but it still gets me going! This is not what i was expecting on a Sunday morning! Love it.....

I reckon you'd struggle to find an indie/alternative band in australia that wasn't influenced in some way by SY or dinosaur. The guys are gods out here.
The band I hear most in that song would have to be fugazi. Check out fugazi's red medicine.

Good memories!
