My career causes me to have to be around dust and debris often. Lately I've noticed that my left ear keeps popping like there's some kind of buildup in there. I don't really notice any hearing impairment but it could be that I'm just use to it and don't even realize it.
I've heard from others that one can have their ears cleaned. Any of you guys ever had this done? Anyone know what to do to get this done?
Thanks

Try pouring hydrogen peroxide in the ear. Let it sit for a little while bubbling and popping. Then pour it out and rinse with water.

I went to a doctor a long time ago and he cleaned my ears with a little water jet thing. Huge plugs of earwax came out. I've also done the earwax cleaner thing but it didn't seem to produce much gunk, nor did I hear a difference.
Whenever I do dusty stuff I almost always wear earplugs as well as a mask.

I have to get my ears cleaned every 12 months I wear earplugs which pushes wax back into the ear on top of that I sometimes wear earmuffs and which get humid underneath. I play in a band (earplugs), work with loud machines tractor's, chain saws, logsplitters, pumps etc, and I do a lot of pest control with fire arms this all require's ear protection and causes problems with the ears natural cleaning system hence the 12 month cleans..
If you think you have to get them cleaned you most probably do when mine get cleaned I am always amazed at how blocked they where.

I wonder if ear candles actually work? I have done it and seen the gunk that it produces, but I've also heard that that is actually just the wax from the candle waxed candle that you're seeing.

Hydrogen Peroxide just like the boss said.... If ya get an ear infection, do the same thing it'll knock it right out. I do it about twice a year.

Anybody had ringing ears as a symptom of this? I've had to work an a lot of extremely noisy places. Maybe I've got damage that peroxide won't fix.

Vinegar and water solution works for infection stuff, follow it with a little alcohol to evaporate the water off. H2o2 works well, but I have a suspicion that it may do some other things that aren't as good at the same time. Hot saline solution works aswell. I have tried the special ear cleaner and was not that impressed, felt like it left a coating in the ear. I had terrible ear infections growing up so I have been through it all to try and keep them clean and uninfected. Just glad I have large ear canals that don't alow large wads to build up.

No, they don't. There is absolutely no medical or cleaning effect found, but in worst case they can damage the ear due to hot wax dropping into the ear. No joke, people already damaged their eardrum by burning and even some manage to perforate it permanently. Some people say it would be an ancient "Hopi" medicine. The Hopi themselves *don't* want to get abused for the marketing of these products. 100% esoterics.

H2o2 works well, but I have a suspicion that it may do some other things that aren't as good at the same time. I wondered the same - i mean, you guys want the ears cleaned not bleached, right? The older you get, the more ear wax is produced naturally. So the good news is the natural cleaning should improve with age. I only knew of using warm water or baby oil for this usage as very inaggressive cleansing substances and am quite surprised what you guys all come up with...

Hydrogen peroxide bought in the pharmacy is heavily diluted in water.
It's a safe remedy to dislodge wax, along with mineral or baby oil. It's not like you're exposing yourself to it on a daily basis.
Be patient. Wait a couple days and the wax should come out itself. I've been there. Do not jam a Q-tip up your ear, as everyone should know by now.
If nothing happens, then you go to the doctor.

I had my ears flushed by a doctor many years ago. They pretty much use a water jet as was mentioned earlier. I was amazed at how much wax came out, its disgusting. It also took a day or two to adjust; I could hear EVERYTHING. It was a sensory overload! I've tried most over the counter remedies, nothing comes close. The over the counter stuff might work if you use it as regular "maintenance", but if you're stopped up, I highly recommend going to a ear, nose and throat doc and getting flushed.
I've had a sporadic blocking in my left ear for about a week now (I used a qtip... I knew it was a bad idea, but did it anyways. Stupid.) I'm going to set up a doc appointment sometime soon to get them flushed. I'm actually pretty excited about it.
