I would think probably not for most of you purist and high-end types. But then I suppose it depends ..which model? ..and for what use?

Isnt that based on the same sampling technology as the nebula thing? Yes it is! Best review " sounds awesome till you hear the real thing , then you sell it for next to nothing"

Do they make to many compromises in developing great digital sounding gear?

People rave over the Acustica stuff...IMHO, I've used a lot of them, been down the rabbit hole, but for the trouble that is expended, I just don't find it very functional. I think they should come out with a hardware box with the proper power to run these... The guy is selling it for $600 - that's why I even considered. But I agree with what you guys are saying...I always tend to go with Helios or VP28 - probably wouldn't touch this much. As much as I love mic pres - for my situation, which is a home studio where I rarely record more than 2 tracks at a time - having 12 different pres just kinda slows me down with paralyzation over productivity. Almost too much to choose from, then I sit around and go, "Man, I wonder what the VP28 would've sounded on that vocal..."

My guesswork is - they dont do it because they want sell the same idea several times. It was one of the reasons I started to collect real gear because it makes no sense to invest about 800 dollars in the same plug in.

Speaking of the UAD 1176...I was playing with a Drum Bus the other day...slapped on the Rev E 1176...loved it, but it doesn't have a HPF, so I started trying other 1176's with the HPF. Man, nothing sounded nearly as good to me. They really nailed the saturation and pumping on that plug.
