I just started mixing an album for a newish client, I did a live concert recording 2 years ago, and sent off a preliminary rough of the first track. She responded that "it was Magic" and that she actually enjoyed listening to herself sing.
Got me thinking... best compliment you have received from an artist?

About my own music, from a friend and prospective client: "sounds like Zeppelin"

Other than folks calling me up and saying that they're eager to come back to do another record..
I've received a few compliments along the lines of "it's exactly what I hoped you could do with our songs" and "this is great, it's better than we had dreamed" kind of stuff.
Although I don't take it too seriously. I've also gotten compliments and then 6 months later hear through the grapevine that the artist was ultimately unhappy. Times change, opinions do too. Sometimes people get caught up in the moment and think something is great, but then later are unhappy with it.
The world turns and I move on!
One could say that the best compliment is when the artist pays without complaint.

The best compliment I get when I mix is when my dog chooses to stay in the studio during mixing! Walk the dog out, start over Mr Bruce"Stella"Sweden

Gee I didn't know your dog was related to Donald Trump ? Ha ha ... of course! the only difference is that Stella has integrity and common sense not running for president. She does what she is good at, listening to mixes and builds skyscrapers (for dogs). Back 2 topic

Famous german producer told me that "it sounds very good". Out of his mouth its a defently a compliment because he is not rateing other peoples work often.

Thanks for not dropping names, I won't either. But getting complimented on your engineering or mixing by one of your heroes, in the same room, in front of your client... is just something else!

..folks calling me up and saying that they're eager to come back to do another record.. I get an occasional praise, but most of the time when it's mix time people are caught up with all the stress an stuff concerning the finalization of the album and the release plans, that I just have to turn off my narcissistic needs and focus entirely to do the best job I can. So what svart said above is the ultimate reward. Of course that call often involves words like 'we love the sound of the last record, so we need you to do it again' which is nice..

I never drop names even in personal conversations. I do hate those arrogant bricks telling you famous names. In my eyes it says nothing, what counts is the output of the work and that even can be bad with someone famous behind the faders.... I just wanted to say that those words where good for me because I am just a part time producer/ engineer, and I do not use the overused term PRO..... deliver a good job and shut up... thats my slogan since 2010.... Today everybody is a PRO .... I still learn every day until I die.

I'm my own customer and I praise myself everyday. Mind you, that's part of the therapy... Love that dog, Håkan. My cat always comes to the studio when she hears music.

Compliments are nice. I received a handwritten note that meant a lot to me, but I'm mainly commenting on the Studio Animals/Mascots. I've got a cat that comes up to me when I do vocals and puts her paw on my leg. She leaves it there for awhile. Now I kinda look for her acknowledgment to see if I'm doing OK, lol.
