I know.. everyone hates polls but what is your favorite genre playing or listening wise. If you had to pick only one.

Definitely "Rock", all the best jazz, funk, RB, pop etc all have it in common, they "ROCK"! It's an attitude right? I mean who rocks harder than Miles Davis or John Coltrane?

Most of it all came from two sources anyhow... Country and the Blues.

I hear what you're saying, but I think you may be confusing rocking with bopping and swinging. Led Zeppelin Rocked and Swung (sp?), right? Anyway, the problem with the survey for me personally is that good music is good music. Bach, Coltrane, Stravinski, Hendrix.. and the list goes on and on.. There's tons of it. But then there's the down-side. When I'm in the car the dial goes in one direction and stops when the music is good, regardless of the genre. Unfortunately, I'm a snob, so I end up spinning that dial like a caffeinated gerbil with OCD on a treadmill ..because it turns out there's also a LOT of BAAAD music out there.

What sucks about polls is someone ALWAYS forgets something! I was trying to stick to the basics but with all the sub genres out today it's hard to please everyone.

But if you want to pick up a CD with some nice Jazz bass on it, you won't find what you're looking for on a Folk album. That's why there's genres, so you can find what you're looking for.

Genre =/= Style.
There's a reason we separate John Denver from Daft Punk from The Ramones. It helps us understand music better. While saying Bramble and Granny Smith are "all just apples", it's a little much to say "It's all just food, man". Some people eat and listen to things you'd struggle with.
It's gotta be punk for me. But in general if music is raw and feels "real" then I like it. In that sense Miles Davis or Elliot Smith are more punk than The Sex Pistols.
