I just got contacted by a friend who lived in Clearlake CA.
He was evacuated at 7am local time... he is now 90 miles away, safe.. got out with a few things, gear and stuff.
Apparently there is a state of emergency declared, and it looks really bad.
We have these things here in Oz.. and I fought one of the biggest in our history when I was in the airforce here.
Fires like this are absolutely terrifying and destructive beyond belief..
They can also move at a speed that is mind blowing, with the fire racing across the tops of trees.
Anyone in that area.. please be safe, and uber conservative...
Gear can always be replace, you and yours can't.
take care

so far we've been lucky, we've had some bad ones here in recent history, in 1996 110 homes burned down, a bunch right here in my neighborhood, last year a fire burned a few houses down over by Jim Williams place, this whole area is like a vacation paradise, it turns the polar opposite, fire and brimstone hell crazy when it happens.
