I resisted. Watched a dbx FS900 rack sell for $110 last night. Hell of a deal. I don't need another! Really! Hope one of you guys got it. am i correct in my belief that the dbx 900 compressor isn't capable of hard knee as compared to the 160xt? that's the singular reason i haven't jumped on one of these, i hope i'm wrong, the deals to be had are silly good on those!!

I have a setup that has drummers come in, sit down and make music, so I need to have things at their disposal that fit the songs and within arms reach. That requires a lot of perc and odd sounds and a very organized method of storage. I buy two large pieces per year or something special as project budgets permit. I am also building at least one nice piece of gear per year to slowly add to the arsenal here. Since I choose not to spend thousands on reverbs, I can add other things that increase the readiness and handiness of the studio. I have three drummer producers that come to my place to track as everything is set up and ready to go. They can set their budgets lower because of this and know they are still getting what they are after. Yo R, have you tried the Bricasti yet? i'm curious to how it sits with all those acoustic instruments you record, i'd think it would really add to your setup considering the low ceilings limited space constrictions of a home base recording studio? The bricasti has moved up to top five on my gas list. No, it's just too expensive and I can rent one from Blackbird anytime I might choose to use it. Much of the stuff I do is made for XM radio, and the drier the recordings are, the better that they translate through the radio. The Hofa IQ-reverb with or without the M7 Bricasti sounds combined with the UAD 140 and 250 plates usually make me happy. I like using odd verbs here anyways. I am ordering a pair of Radial EXTC's to use with my Benado, Tube Little Walter spring and Demeter verbs. I am going to route them all to my 8 channel Binson Echo Mixer which should be pretty amazing.

I add one piece of percussion to the arsenal when I don't have the funds for big purchases and steadily grow the studio one baby step at a time. That keeps me feeling like the studio is gaining/growing and not getting stagnate.
I found a great deal on a Remo djembe with a stand on the local CL last week. That'll see some use.
I still have my $25 ebay card, maybe I can grab a set of shaker eggs to round things out...

It is my way of continuing to do organic music and leave the midi percussion for someone else.

Yes. It doesn't bother me, I'm not so sure why it's a deal breaker for others. An FS900 rack was the easy way to get into the de-esser until the 500 series sale happened. Might be again if it ends.

That Sweetwater sale may be like the Beyerdynamic anniversary edition M500's and M260's, that Full Compass had forever at something stupid like $200 ea. Never again, and why didn't I buy those. But I already have a 900A and FS900 rack set......

Rather than blow dough on minor pieces and smaller gains, I save up for the big pieces instead. Last one was the Bricasti. I'd rather have one of those than 20 pieces of junk. Around here, less is more, more or less. Fewer super high quality pieces makes up for a room full of crap. Quality over quantity. Great post

Both sides are valid. Getting a Supraphonic or a new fuzz pedal, a cheapie Reslo Ribbon or a decent tambourine is a good idea. But likewise saving up for something nice like a stereo pair of Coles is definitely worth it sometimes too.

I agree on not spending half on an inferior product. But a 500 Series setting is calling my name...

I messed around with the UAD Dimension D recently, as I have an MKS20 in my hands. Maaaaan, what that Chorus does to Electric Pianos...... If you're gonna fill that slot in your 500-rack, fill it with the horvitz TBDD!

Well, I can't keep up with what you have or haven't sold at any given time. But, take your own advice and click on some of the advertisers banners. The Ingram looks interesting and the Heritage stuff seems to be well regarded. And as mentioned the TBDD looks cool as a chorus/widerizer. I'm not sure the Awtac ad is still running, but I have serious GAS for their stuff. And I hear J. Steiger has a new webstore up and running.
I dunno, I think it can never hurt to have more/ different flavors of outboard compression and eqs. There's lots of decent ITB stuff, but it ain't the same. Maybe something like the Serpent LA3s? Maybe something a little under the radar that not everybody else has.
Not 500 series, but would Brad and Bill's super bullet be useful to your workflow? It's still spring right? (Er, when we gonna see that bad boy?)
Do you ever write on piano? Maybe an instrument that you don't or rarely play. Pedal steel? I dunno.
Throwin' some stuff out there.
Cheers, Geoff

Buy it nice or buy it twice.
Of course, this does mean that yours truly walks into the guitar store to buy a parlor guitar and instead gets a used but far superior 00-18v, rationalizing the purchase as a good value, which it was. But way more than I wanted to spend initially, fuck.

Walked in to Vintage King today...just couldn't justify pulling the trigger on anything...I mean, there's plenty of stuff out of my price range I want...but nothing IMPR that I could leave without.

I have a hard time saving up for big purchases, cause a bunch of small GAS always gets in the way.
