This is what started my sub $100 dynamic habit , found it cheaper and more interesting than anything else ! The problem with that habit is that you end up hoarding a bunch of stuff because it's so cheap that even if it sucks, it's not work the hassle of selling.

This is what started my sub $100 dynamic habit , found it cheaper and more interesting than anything else ! On that note, these ES-57 mics may satisfy the craving for only $39.... It's an SM-57 knockoff, and is actually quite nice and just as usable as the real thing (and moreso on some sources). Or three for $89... www.speakerrepair.com/page/product/37-206.html

We've got a Shure-Radio Shack Branded 33-3001 Unidirectional that's quite usable. Pretty cheap used, and was when new.

Yeah using '57' in the name is kinda cheesy..... would have been better to name it something different ala audix i5 or other similar mics in that family. But I like having a bunch of different dynamic mics since they're cheap, and each has it's own 'thing' that it excels at. Lately, I probably use the actual sm57 the least of all of my dynamic mics. Really wanna try some Heils and the Telefunken M80... but those are a little pricier.

It's terrible. I just got a $25 ebay gift card and spent an hour looking for what I might be able to use it for.
Not that I really need anything, just wanted to buy something.

I add one piece of percussion to the arsenal when I don't have the funds for big purchases and steadily grow the studio one baby step at a time. That keeps me feeling like the studio is gaining/growing and not getting stagnate.

Rather than blow dough on minor pieces and smaller gains, I save up for the big pieces instead. Last one was the Bricasti. I'd rather have one of those than 20 pieces of junk.
Around here, less is more, more or less. Fewer super high quality pieces makes up for a room full of crap.
Quality over quantity.

I have a setup that has drummers come in, sit down and make music, so I need to have things at their disposal that fit the songs and within arms reach. That requires a lot of perc and odd sounds and a very organized method of storage. I buy two large pieces per year or something special as project budgets permit. I am also building at least one nice piece of gear per year to slowly add to the arsenal here. Since I choose not to spend thousands on reverbs, I can add other things that increase the readiness and handiness of the studio. I have three drummer producers that come to my place to track as everything is set up and ready to go. They can set their budgets lower because of this and know they are still getting what they are after.

Yo R, have you tried the Bricasti yet? i'm curious to how it sits with all those acoustic instruments you record, i'd think it would really add to your setup considering the low ceilings limited space constrictions of a home base recording studio? The bricasti has moved up to top five on my gas list.
