blackspademics.com/pages/faqNot much info there, no real details as to the style, parts, etc. I'll see if I can get Mike to send me some info about them. I have a hunch they're gonna be monsters, Mike's been working on this for a while, and the relatively inexpensive UM17 was the best 1k mic I could find, by a long shot. If he can do that at that price point, I'd really love to see what he can do when he swings for the fences with these. Benchmarks are important, they help us see how far away we are, and if it's worth the price difference.

Hmm.. My UM-17B Blueline was handmade by Oliver Archut, and the M7 Thiersch Blueline installed by Shannon. Much as I love it, I'm still not sure it's the best match for my voice. I'll say this, when I had two vintage U47 FET's, and a vintage AKG 414, my wife tried them, and said, "give me my mic". meaning the Blackspade. It's clearly a first class piece, so the new model's will probably be shockingly good.
I can't wait to hear some of Sinsay's new gear, that'll be really interesting.

I know the guys making 'em and their aproach is pretty much no holds barred so I guarantee these are going to be stellar. Based on their component choices I can tell they are building to a performance metric. The previous generation may have been cost influenced, but I don't think that's a major factor in the new products. They might not be cheap, but they will perform.

Hmm.. My UM-17B Blueline was handmade by Oliver Archut, and the M7 Thiersch Blueline installed by Shannon. Much as I love it, I'd trade for one of the MK-U47's if someone was interested.. Also have the 17B but the blue was installed by Oliver. I love the mic. Tbh, even if I was to get a possibly better more expensive option one day, I'd have a hard time selling it as Oliver was so kind to me in putting it all together. Sentimental connection it seems. It's a solid mic no doubt.

Hey decampo, great to hear of another UM-17B made by Oliver!
He was a great resource and a jovial fellow indeed. I only tried it for a minute to see if it worked, but I just got the Warm Audio EP-1A, and I tried just a smidgen of low end boost, and the mic started to really sing, so I'll see how it goes when I get to recording something new. Now, if I could only afford a Sta=Level ;-)
I'd have a hard time letting go too, because it has a distinctive character, that really stands out in a mix with little EQ if any needed. Nuance and low level detail are in full view.

Nuance and low level detail are in full view. Do this with your Warm Tec set boost and cut to 3. leave everything else alone... Put ANY signal through it.. Now just move the Low EQ switch from 20 to 800 whilst listening... one will be awesome... awesome I tells ya.... Then listen to the mids... set the Bandwidth control to Sharp. Set the Boost to say 2. Move the Freq control from 3kHz to 16 Khz Pick the juiciest sound.... then slowly broaden the curve with the Band width. If you feel you need it.. use the High Freq Cut. Note.. There is a 5dB boost running through this box. Even with the Gain switched out. Don't expect boosting 40 hz, to sound like boosting 40 hz... The pultec is its own Beautiful thing.. the EQ markings don't really mean jack in the traditional plug in eq sense... I can't believe I just used the word "Traditional" about a plug in... 8) Also the numbers on boost and cut are not dBs.. they are just numbers. cheers Wiz

Great advice wiz, thanks so much.
I'll be back to my desk by next Wednesday and will start tracking some new things then. I'll give you a shout when I try those settings. Even for my two minute test to check that it was working, I had something close to this settings, except now that I look at where I left the settings, for some strange reason I had a little more cut than boost at 200, with a bandwidth in the middle, it still sounded fuller in the low end. Maybe I moved them afterwards, I don't remember what I was up to at the time. I hesitate to say it, because I tried the Warm -Tec for 2 minutes, but it really sounded sweeeeeeeet. I'll explore further as I can.
