Yesterday I told a AE I know from guitar studio jobs that I bought the Lexi PCM 96. and thats for the money (240 Euro) a very nice sounding reverb plug in. His logic goes like this: It does not sound like the old Lexicons, because of this its a bad code, and unusable. Can you tell me the day the vintage madness started? Vintage = good = usable....  |

When it comes to digital reverb units, the newer stuff is light years ahead of the older stuff.

I was selling a lot of vintage tube preamps in the early 2000's, and it was hard to convince recording people they were usable. They mostly went overseas. They were affordable and good value for money, they have not been in a long long time. What passed then as 'possibly too much color and funk' is practically considered clean and boring. The trend of chasing 'dirt! dirt! dirt! at all times dirt!' really came to the fore since then. The 80's were not yet considered vintage.

This could be a term paper. And much like academia in general, it would be a mixture of previous opinions pushed as fact, and current opinion with anecdotal evidence given as validation of said opinion! |

It's just a style and a posture really. Your friend's trying to be cool I guess. If my english is not too bad than the Lexicon PCM 96 is a best of Lexicon Reverb collection by Harman. I guess he wanted to let me know he worked with the big flagships. This attitude is some kind of childish and does not belongs to a person who is 50+. He reminded me on GS where Tape, and everything else from yesteryear, is a holy grail. Without it you cant have great mix. And not to forget... Genelecs are the biggest shit on earth. The new KH 120 is better than any other nearfield monitor, if you do not agree you have no clue. |

Like everything else in this world we are beset with those new blood hobbit guys with more money than brains who read a book spent a lot of money and think they can make great recordings in the smallest room of their spec home because of that great gear the gearpimp sold them and the guy they think is a studio jokey on GS but is in fact a 16 year old who has 3 windows open on his PC Browser GS VK and som free porn site!
Don't worry in 5 years our hobby guy will sell his Gear to fund the purchase of a BMW M3 because that same Pimp and troll have moved up in the world and have new user names!
I like being different that's why I listen through Questeds and drive a AMG!

Maybe he meant the Lexicon "plug-in" doesn't sound as good as the old hardware units.
