I received my GML 8200 today. I got it from a pretty well connected guy in Nashville. So, I got lucky. He sent me a nice unit with no problems, despite my Paypal woes. All's well that ends well!
Anyway, I pull it out of the box expecting some heft and found out it is quite light. Not Elysia Nvelope light, but light. Then, I pick up the power supply, which is the heaviest power supply I ever held. I don't know much about power supplies, but it's one heavy sucker.
I put it on the mix bus and started playing around, first with the vaunted 20K shelf. I always wondered how engineers get such bright electric guitar sounds. Now I know. That shelf took my electric guitar chorus guitars into Proland. And that goes for the entire mix- there's air in it that I just never got from anything else. All I can say is I never felt that "it sounds like a record" feeling, but I'm hearing it now.
Another thing that I didn't expect is that with the 8200 on I can hear reverb better. No sure why.
The low end is as they say: It tightens it up. Pulls it together. Cool.
I've never bounced much with my Bricasti, but I can see myself taking the time to do a realtime bounce with this. Vocal, Piano, Acoustic Guitars etc. This thing is the shit.
Anyway, I'll post some before and after stuff soon so you can hear it. I know I'm gonna make some mistakes- I always learn most from mistakes- but this is a dream come true for me. So, I'm looking forward to the ride.
